Well it looks like you are looking for the perfect non existing laptop, so what is the thing or two you can let go ?

Other options that was not mentioned is this Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY because it checks off almost everything, Quad Core CPU check, Discrete GPU check (960M so it should run most mainstream games on low to medium with ease and high on older ones), <5 lbs check, QHD Screen check, >8 hours battery life semi check, but no USB-C Thunderbolt(I think this is your best option since you really won't need Thunderbolt except after a couple of years as per you.

Another one is ASUS ZenBook UX303UB lacks the Quad core and Thunderbolt, but it is way lighter and everything else is there (weaker GPU though).

Another option will have USB C, but not thunderbolt and weaker battery but everything else is there.

What do you guys think ? u/peweje , u/Aksen, u/Ahanix,

i have a (certified) refurbished dell laptop that i'm trying to sell that has never been used before. it comes in the box in which it was shipped to me by dell.

specs:

  • 1 terabyte sshd + 128 gigabyte ssd

  • dedicated video card: nvidia geforce gtx 960m 4gb gddr5

  • intel core i7-6700hq cpu @ 2.60 gigahertz

  • 15.6-inch touch screen with 4k ultra hd display

  • 16.0 gb ram

  • os: windows 10 home

here's a link to the laptop on amazon. you can find additional specifications listed at that link (or send me a message if you have any questions).

asking: $700 or best offer, otherwise i'm sending it to amazon on monday to be sold through their fulfillment by amazon.

This Dell Inspiron laptop would be a very good choice for you. It is the right size for you, not too heavy and is loaded with power. It has a very power processor, a nice dedicated graphics card for those games you run as well as a great memory and excellent storage.

It has an amazing screen quality and display as well as an outstanding battery life. This should be an ideal laptop for you and college and your gaming.

u/Galmsortie17 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would probably go for something else. It doesn't really make sense for your needs, you'd never use a lot of that ram.

This would probably be better value: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B015PZ0EHS/ref=olp_f_new?ie=UTF8&f_new=true

u/trainedtech88 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

that dell is a great laptop however you might want to get a quad core processor for the more demanding programs. how about this Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GR. this powerhouse comes with a decent 6th gen intel quad core i7 cpu which will be great for CAD, 16gb ram, 1tb plus 128gb ssd storage space, a great built, decent keyboard and touchpad and a great battery life.

u/Orangematz · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Ah, the ones that have 4K are above your budget on Amazon. You may be interested in this but it is still more than you want to spend.

u/shopineer · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Not sure that is available for $750. The closest one I can think of is the [Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY] (http://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-7512GRY-Touchscreen-Generation-Processor/dp/B015PZ0EHS/).

u/wnstkd2000 · 1 pointr/computers

Hmm...most 360 degrees laptops will include touchscreens, but they are more set-up for the daily use, not high-performance laptops. There are some laptops with touchscreens that gives high performance, but they are not 360 degrees supported, like the one i've mentioned: ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501VW

also check this out: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PZ0EHS/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B015PYZK4Q&linkCode=as2&tag=classylps-20&linkId=WF4UWCF6AFNCCBZT&th=1
less portable, but more performance + touchscreen

Got a new laptop recently. this one to be exact. Works fine mostly. Tried playing Rainbow Six: Siege. I got about 22 fps regardless of the settings (tried low and high). I have the game set to use the dedicated video card rather than the integrated. The game isn't using all of my video memory, so I don't know the issue. I'm new to pc gaming

u/Knafa · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Should I get this one instead? Or go with your suggestion?

What about this one? It's $88 more but it has more ram and more gpu memory(really beneficial to photo edit) . It's also has a 90℅ sRGB accuracy.

Alternatively you can just upgrade the ram yourself on the one you bought, but you cant do anything about the 2gb for gpu. As someone who is a photographer, you can never have enough ram. 8gb works, but 16gb is more beneficial. The laptop you bought is good and you won't have a problem with it. I'm not sure how accurate the screen is in terms of color either.

Concentrate on gpu and ram. They are more important in my opinion than CPU.

Hey,

I believe the best laptop for you is the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY.

It is very fast with an Intel i7-6700HQ CPU, Nvidia GTX960M, 16GB of RAM and 128GB SSD + 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive.

It also meets your other criteria:

  • It's $1175
  • It only weighs 4.6lbs so you can carry it around school
  • An i7 which is perfect for video editing
  • Can run games on high, if not ultra settings
u/Enduer · 1 pointr/WeddingPhotography

A lot of people are throwing out specific models, but it may be easier to just give you some useful specs and then let you pick one out!

You'll want an i5 or i7 processor. The important thing when picking which one is the letter designation that comes after it. If you care more about speed than battery life, get one with "HQ" after the name. ie. i7-6600HQ. Those are much more powerful than the alternative you will commonly see, which is "U". The "HQ" processors are less power efficient but significantly more powerful, and the "U" processors are power efficient but less powerful than their desktop counterparts.

From there, make sure you have 8GB to 16GB of RAM. Oftentimes it is cheaper to buy a laptop with 8GB of RAM and upgrade it to 16GB by throwing in an extra RAM stick. Check and see if your laptop is upgradeable when you research it!

Along those same lines many laptops now come with the ability to upgrade storage. Finding one with a SSD as well as a HDD will make your computer much faster. Finding one with the ability to add a SSD is just as useful - typically a 128GB SSD will run around $60 and is very easy to put in and configure.

Finally, look for one with a discreet graphics card. This is definitely optional, as Lightroom really isn't designed to fully utilize a dedicated card. Many of the operations it runs are CPU based, however the dGPU will assist in some areas. You will want to prioirtize processor speed and number of cores though.

I think generally you will find the premium you pay for a Surface isn't worth it unless you are dead set on the quasi-tablet form factor or pen. The specs just aren't as good as alternatives.

Hope this helps! For what it's worth, after I looked around I bought this laptop on Prime Day last week and love it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PZ0EHS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Amazon Warehouse is a great place to find some refurbished/open box deals, as is Woot!

u/silents429 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

The problem is that you will not find a 4k Resolution laptop within $1300

The cheapest I could find that "might" be able to game at 4k is http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-7512GRY-Touchscreen-Generation/dp/B015PZ0EHS/ref=sr_1_34?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1450714694&sr=1-34&keywords=4k+laptop

But it comes with a 960m which I don't think is even fit for 4k games.

You'd do way better to just get a 1080P IPS display laptop.

u/TheRealPizza · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I don't know if you'll get it for that price, but have a look at Dell's XPS range. There's an XPS 13 and an XPS 15, and I'm sure there's one which has both a touchscreen and a gtx 960

Edit: here's what can be your perfect laptop.

u/hairyboobs69 · 1 pointr/laptops

I just purchased a dell inspiron i7559 with identical specs from the dell outlet for 800$. You do have to order it from the online chat assistance though as they aren't listed on the site inventory.

u/w311why · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I JUST bought two of these from Dell outlet for 550 dollars refurbished w/o the SSD, that's a pretty bad deal. The GPU is also a 960m not a 960 and the display is apparently pentile (not true 4k) if that matters to you. The ram isn't an issue, the HDD is but there's an SSD in it.

If you really want that computer I think this is the exact same one for 850.
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-7512GRY-Touchscreen-Generation-Processor/dp/B015PZ0EHS?SubscriptionId=AKIAJQYFXGBZ6MDO67HQ

(but it ships in like 1 to 2 months)

u/FiveStarHero · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Those three laptops you mentioned have a duel core CPU which is not ideal in video editing and 3D rendering. Same logic applies for the ram (16 GB is preferred).

Recommendations:

Dell Inspiron i7559 Signature Ed. - 1000$+ extra = 1108$(explained below)
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-7512GRY-Touchscreen-Generation/dp/B015PZ0EHS/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1459274262&sr=1-4&keywords=dell+inspiron+7559#Ask
Note: Add ram and SSD(check Frequently Bought Together in the link). Also this laptop is 4k resolution laptop + touchscreen. You could also just buy the other version with 16gb and SSD built in but will cost you 100$ extra and is a non signature edition.
Indepth Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJPQfWCuxAo

ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH74 - 1249$
http://www.amazon.com/GL552VW-DH71-15-Inch-Discrete-GeForce-Metallic/dp/B01578ZKPO/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1459274624&sr=1-3&keywords=laptop+6700hq
Note: You could go with the cheaper model and add a SSD to save dosh(Will lose 2gb of VRAM from GPU).
Note: I screwed up this laptop is heavy(5.6 pounds).

Eluktronics P640RE 1250$(Did a lot of digging for this)
http://www.amazon.com/Eluktronics-P640RE-14-0-Inch-i7-6700HQ-Performance/dp/B01BNI4YF4/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
Note: Has a 970m GPU unlike the other two which has 960m(60-70% better) and is the only laptop I've seen with a 14" screen at this price with these specs. Only real con I see is that I am not familiar with that brand and will probably have bad battery life.

u/The---Technician · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

For video editing, that Samsung would not be ideal as for video editing, a quad core processor preferably an i7 is recommended- that machine has a dual core i7 processor..The Lenovo is nice, but has only 8 GB RAM ( for video editing, I recommend more)... The Inspiron i7559-7512GRY matches your needs the best with it's powerful i7 quad core processor, 16 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD plus 1 TB HDD and of course it's decent gtx 960 dedicated graphics card... It also has the touch screen which you like ..Don't depend on it's 4k screen resolution though, as it is not the true 4k... You have used HP laptops before, if you like the brand, this HP Pavilion 15 Touch would be a great pick for you for a number of reasons.... It has a nice IPS touchscreen display, 16 GB RAM, a powerful quad core i7 processor, nice storage with an SSD of course, and a solid gtx 960 dedicated graphics card.. It does have a nice keyboard and solid chassis

I just purchased this bad boy last week - And it kicks ass http://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-7512GRY-Touchscreen-Generation-Processor/dp/B015PZ0EHS?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00
But I only paid $999.00 for it looks like the price just went up by $200 -

u/The--Technician · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

If she wants a lighter weighted laptop, then I recommend she go with a 15.6 inches laptop which would still be a big enough sized screen. For those games mentioned especially the Fallout, she will require a little processing power (for the photo editing as well), decent memory and of course a nice graphics card. This Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY Laptop I think will do a very good job for her and is much more light weighted than her 6 lbs laptop.

u/DeadRights · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thank you for all of the information! I ended up going with the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY 15.6 Inch UHD Touchscreen Laptop. It had more ram, better resolution, and an SSD for about $100 more. After reading through your comments I have to agree that at this price point the specs are pretty great. I hear a lot of negative things about the touch pad but I'll mostly be using a mouse. Thank you for all of the help, I really appreciate it!!

u/TheGonvar · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

What about Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY
A dedicated graphic card (960m) for photoshop and gaming, a good processor (i7) and a UHD screen, a SSD and HDD.
