So first thing's first, Windows: ~$130 for Home Edition.

Okay, so things to keep in mind:

1. If you go Intel, overclocking isn't too great on 9th gen intel, especially if you don't have a beefy aftermarket cpu cooler. So if you don't plan on doing that at some point then you don't need a K series CPU and an overclocking motherboard. So your motherboard should primarily focus on giving you decent I/O options.
   
   
2. You also probably want to aim for 1080p or 1440p tops, given your price range.
   
   
3. Related to #1: If you don't plan on overclocking then a basic-ish mobo will do fine, and you mainly want to focus on I/O and other features. If you are getting Intel doubly so, as, as I mentioned before, intel 9th gen doesn't overclock well due to relatively low headroom to begin with. For intel overclocking boards are "Z" while non-overclocking boards are "B". For AMD they are "X" and "B" respectively.
   
   The GPU you should be seeking to use is the 1660 Ti, which is basically a slightly gimped RTX 2060 but without the raytracing stuff. If you are willing to spend a bit more then you could get an RX 5700 instead, which is nearly ~30% faster on average.
   
   That'll put you at $270 - $360 depending on the model you pick. Yes, it's a third of your budget, but the GPU is the single most important part of your build.
   
   Secondly you'll want a decent CPU to go with that.
   
   The Ryzen 5 3600 looks like a pretty good CPU, its a bit under $200, its fairly beefy and extendable so it's somewhat "future-proof" - in that it shouldn't cause much bottlenecking and you could upgrade your GPU past a 2080 Ti before needing to change the processor.
   
   This MSI Tomohawk Mobo looks good for the 3600.
   
   So we're at ~$320 for that, or about $640 total. Plus windows that is ~$730.
   
   The RAM Inty recommended before should be fine. You only really need 16 GB. This will set you back ~$80. If you find yourself wanting more RAM later down the line you can always add another pair of sticks later and double up your RAM.
   
   That puts us at around ~$800.
   
   $80 for a 750W Fully Modular Corsair PSU is basically a steal. It's refurbished though, although that shouldn't be a problem - especially with a PSU.
   
   We're at ~$880.
   
   Some good thermal paste for your CPU.
   
   We're now at ~$890.
   
   Storage depends on what you want to do. Do you install a lot of stuff and files at once? In which case you might want to get a nice sized SSD plus a big HDD.
   
   For your system drive. Plenty of space, good price, AND its an nvme SSD.
   
   That makes for ~$990.
   
   If you need lots of extra space
   
   If you need extreme extra space
   
   Keyboard and case are up to you, decide as you please. For the case just make sure that it can support an ATX mobo, as the mobo listed here is full ATX. Mechanical keyboards are crack, but they tend to be more expensive so they're probably out of range. This will be another $100 to $150 depending on what you pick.
   
   Something to keep in mind though: Your case and your monitors are basically "future proof". In other words, they won't really get "worse" with time or cause future performance issues. So monitors and case are things where you want to consider what you'll eventually want and buy ahead, even if you have to stretch a bit.
   
   This just leaves your monitor. I would NOT recommend a 1080p monitor above 24 in. Honestly, if you can go for a 1440p monitor then do it. I'm a bit of a resolution whore tho, so if 1080p works for you then that's fine. I would also avoid TN panels - they tend to look more washed out, tinny, and have worse viewing angles . . . although they also tend to be a fair bit cheaper than the good panels (namely IPS panels).
   
   I used to own one of these . . . it was vvy vvy gud. This is a relatively artsy monitor, so if color gamut correctness or whatever is important for you for photo or video editing or whatever, then this is a good pick. It's a bit expensive, yeah, but also super gorgeous. It also goes up to 75 Hz. Conversely, get a freesync monitor, and this one is probably good - haven't done much research on it, but Dells are generally pretty good in my experience (my current 4K monitor is a Dell too). Freesync will allow you to basically eliminate screen tearing and will provide a smoother feeling experience because it will even out frame rates better.
   
   One last thing to keep in mind: Shopping around on ebay and other sites can save you a fair bit. My rule of thumb is to never, ever buy sensitive parts like hard-drives, cpus, or motherboards second hand or refurbished. But everything else is fair game. So refurbished GPUs, Monitors, PSUs, Cases, etc. should be fine. Pre-owned? Ehhh . . . that I'm much, much more sketchy on - personally I wouldn't, but that's just me.
   
   So in total it'd be somewhere in the range of $1500 including monitor, OS, case, and keyboard. The system itself is around $1000. But you can perhaps knock off a hundred bucks or two by shopping around and looking for where you can buy these parts cheaper than Amazon.
   
   But again: investing in a good monitor and case can be worth it. It means you won't have to replace it if/when you do upgrade. And worst case scenario you can offload your monitor as a side/secondary monitor when you upgrade your monitor to a new one.

From my experience, GSync is a complete gimmick and makes no difference. I may just not see much of a difference though because I'm usually playing games at a high FPS and rarely singleplayer games at ~60fps

I would not recommend 4k for the 2080. It would be able to run games around 60 fps at 4k however refresh rate will make things more enjoyable. Also, 4k high refresh rate monitors are currently very expensive.

Depending on the games you play (lighter esports titles vs heavy AAA), you may want to consider a 3700x. While the 3600 has decent 144hz performance, the 3700x or 9700k is ideal for pushing more frames, plus you have the added benefit of two more physical cores. You can get an awesome 1440p 144hz freesync monitor like the Dell S2719DGF for around $300. There's no reason to pay extra for Gsync when Freesync will do the exact same thing for cheaper. A nice 1440p 144hz IPS panel should only run you $500, so spend a little more of that budget on a CPU upgrade to make the most of a 144hz monitor.

Can anyone speak to the quality difference between this and the S2719DGF? I know the 19 is newer and has FreeSync instead of G-SYNC. I have an Nvidia card for what it’s worth but as I understand it those can also use FreeSync

Speaking from experience (playing Overwatch, Apex and Siege) 1440p is the complete opposite of too much. You should absolutely get a 144hz 1440p monitor.

EDIT: I also have a Ryzen 3600 (previously a 4790k) and a GTX 2070, and to get max frames with the right resolution you do need to have a good CPU/GPU combo.

I would recommend Dell monitors. S2719DGF (1440p, 155Hz, 27", FreeSync enabled - I have this monitor and a 1080 Ti, no problems at all using GSync with it) for the center monitor, and SE2717HR for the side panels (1080p, 60Hz, IPS panel for better colors).

If you’re willing to spend $300, you can get something like this 27” 1440p 144hz Dell Monitor. I personally have this 24” 1440p 165hz G-sync display, which goes well with my 2080. I personally would suggest getting the 27” which you can always downscale ingame for higher framerates.

If you're not watching movies or doing any color sensitive work I'd recommend this. Viewing angles aren't a big deal since you aren't moving around. Probably the two best panels for 1440p 144hz gaming are the the Viotek gn27db if you prefer a curved panel or the Dell S2719DGF if you prefer flat panel.

For video card I'm thinking around $550 and monitor maybe like $325ish. Like I said I can wait if needed which means if AMD releases a new Navi before Cyberpunk and it's around $600ish, I could save more and swing it. Don't really want to push on the monitor too much but would go up to $350 if it really was that much better.

This is exactly what I would do... its a bit over $300 but is generally one of, if not THE, most recommended 1440p, 144hz monitors.

I know that you said that refresh rate isn't huge for you... but with having a 2070 super, I would go for 144hz that way you've got the ability to have higher refresh rates with other games, if/when you play them.

If you ABSOLUTELY CANT go over $300, let me know and I can probably find you something else... but the monitor that I included here is quite a great one... I dont have it personally, but ive got probably 5 friends with it and they all love it.

This goes for ~$300 fairly regularly. FreeSync and Gsync support as well over DisplayPort with the latest Nvidia drivers.

I'm having an issue with my monitors when Freesync is turned on. I have 3 monitors. My main one is a 144/155Hz Dell (Link) and the secondaries are Acer 75Hz (Link). I have tried the Dell at both 144 and 155. My GPU is a 5700 XT on 19.8.1 drivers.

My issue is when I am playing a game on the main screen (I've noticed it with Overwatch and Fortnite in Windowed Borderless) that my other 2 monitors FPS drops to almost nothing. If I have Discord or TS or something up, I can't see it light up when I talk or someone else does. If I have a video running on Youtube, it is running at less than 1 FPS. It's like the monitor doesn't want to update what's on the screen.

I turned off Freesync on the monitor and in the Radeon settings and it seemed fix the issue, so I'm pretty sure it's Freesync. When I google this issue, it seems like most people have the opposite problem where the performance hit is on their main monitor. Also, most answers seem to be play in Fullscreen mode (defeats the purpose of multi monitors, no?) or buy all Freesync monitors at the same refresh rate. Not really an option. Some people say it's actually a Windows issue. I'm not finding much good info, so I'm hoping someone here knows about this.

Does anyone know of any fix or anything to try? What am I losing by not using Freesync? I guess I don't fully understand that technology either.

Also, I did not have this issue prior to my new build. I had a 144Hz main screen and 2 60Hz screens at that time, but was using an Nvidia card but not G-sync or freesync.

That one's pretty good, not that I recommend 27" 1080p but if it's the one you think will be the best for your usage, go for it.


Only thing you have to do to it is adjust the settings to get the best color out of it. Other than that, it should be a reliable monitor.

Sorry I didn't notice you wanted 1ms. AD27QD is probably the best you can get but it's slightly over your budget. If you don't care IPS you have alternatives at the cost of image quality and/or color accuracy but it shouldn't be a problem since you have mentioned 144Hz and I guess you would use this monitor purely for gaming.

S2719DGF if you have a NVIDIA card or AG271QX if you have an AMD card are my recommendations.

Ha! It was great! Then I i got the best of me, and i did end up upgrading to the 9700k, with a Z390 AORUS mobo. w/ mem and all the other stuff.

So, now my partner is happy because she went from some 10 year old minimum spec desktop (And a new monitor because i had to buy a 144hz) , to a decent gaming rig because since i pretty much built a new machine, i gave her my old one.

I didn't expect to spend all that money, but i do put some money aside every month for 'toys'. It was time to use it. Now im just trying to figure out the monitor issue because i picked up a S2719DGF and its been super, but its got a horrrrrrrible halo in the center of the screen. Not sure if thats normal or defective. So im returning it but it seems all monitors have someone complaining about dead pixels, bad backlighting, weird screen problems of whole rows of pixels not working for a second, or other HW issues. Than choosing between IPS, VA, or TN. etc. You'd think the monitor would be the easiest part to pick but its ending up being the hardest.

So i made an alternate pcpartpicker list for you that is more focused on intel. the 9600k is much better for gaming than 2700x, just keep that in mind (Despite it having less cores)

Here are my thoughts. Just know im a little biased towards intel over ryzen at this budget

would you consider a slightly faster processor. My build was the same except I got a 9600k with a noctua nh-d15

the 9600k will make your computer much more upgradeable in the future and you wont have to rebuild as often. you'll also be able to oc it much more

Ram: Your RAM is massively overkill but it is a good choice for 2700x.. Only get that RAM if you get an AMD. I still would recommend 9700k or 9600k imo over that, but i am biased towards intel so keep that in mind. just remmeber you can save some money on ram if you get intel. Also, I only have 8 gb of ram and it works fine with my build and things i do (Gaming)

-That motherboard seems a bit pricey for ryzen, but I dont really know about ryzen boards. I just know that htey are generally cheaper than intel boards and that MB is running hte same price as my intel board

-don't get that cooler. just use stock cooler. I think someone else already said it but the stock cooler is fine with ryzen. only get a cooler for ryzen if you get a good one

Probably this Dell or the new Nixeus Edg V2. The Dell has really good colors for a TN panel and overall a great monitor. The Nixeus is the cheapest good IPS panel you can buy at 1440p, 144hz. It was released on March 1st and quickly sold out. New stock is coming in soon. I would put in an order sooner than later cause I am sure it's going to sell out again.

If you have prime this might be a better choice. Although Dell doesn't do the full three year warranty if it comes from amazon. You should also see what kind of warranty is available for this acer (it is refurbished so their might not really be any).

It's not a $500 monitor. It's $380 on amazon. For comparison, the Acer VG271UP and the Dell S2719DGF that can be found in Europe for ~350€ are $390 and $340 respectively. So the LG is definitely in the same price range, it will just take a month for the price to normalize once it more broadly enters the EU market. I can't even find it anywhere in my country yet.

That's a hard price to hit for a "good" 144hz it would help to know if your looking for G-Sync (nvidia) or FreeSync (amd) and IPS vs TN panels.

G-Sync runs you about an extra $100 for nvidia's proprietary system but it's arguably better in certain situations.
The panel makes a difference as well IPS is better but will run you allot more than $250 alone so that's probably out.
TN is a bit of a older standard but you can find some really good TN panels out there like Dell's s2719dg set.

Dell's S2719DGF is the cheaper FreeSync version at $299.99 on Amazon.
Dell's S2716DGR G-Sync monitor is on sale right now at BestBuy for $349 (anything $350 or lower is a great price for this monitor).


There are cheaper G-Sync or especially Free-Sync monitors out there but you start losing 1440p/144hz quality fast.

Go with a fully modular PSU. You won't regret it, especially when it comes to cable management. Would recommend the EVGA SuperNova G3.

One of the best 2K monitors out there and has one of the better TN panels.

I am personally getting this monitor when i have the spare budget. Great quality TN pannel, freesync and solid build quality. Not the cheapest but 1440/144 just is not that cheap yet.

Also, why do you need a 1440/144 monitor for recording? you can render at higher resolutions than your monitor and record those, same goes for frame rate. But no site that I know off even allows higher than 60 Hz video playback, so I don't see the need for such a monitor if you just want you recordings to be nice.

Monitor is great if you want a light/medium gaming monitor without completely ruining your colour/viewing angles

The Dell S2719DGF is a commonly recommended 27" 1440p 144Hz model with a TN display. If you're looking for an IPS display, you'll probably need to lurk for deals in /r/buildapcsales that occasionally drop into the 300-350 range.

This was on sale recently for $300. It's basically not what you asked for except the price range but its a really damn good deal for a quality 144hz 27 inch 1440p monitor. So do check it out! For what you'are actually looking for, this is one of the better budget 144hz monitors out there. Since your range seems large, I'd recommend you not do a budget monitor and get this. This would probably be the most expensive monitor you could get that fits your choice. But overall I gave you a suggestion choice, low end, mid end,and high end. As long as you're not getting a VA panel, you'll never experience ghosting.

Short answer: It should run fine.

Here’s a suggestion if you want to read it,
I have a really similar build.

Do yourself a favor. Drop the liquid cooling, drop the monitor, and get this monitor instead. I have a 2600x with the same white RTX 2070 in your build, you’ll run 1440p just fine and you won’t have to worry about buying a second expensive monitor later again when you can have 1440 now. The stock cooler for the cpu will be fine now unless you’re overclocking right away. That means in a month or two, you can drop just the $200 for the liquid cooling and save the extra $200 you would have spent on the first monitor.

Well you would see things much more smoother and most likely less input lag as the monitors you listed. But you would sacrifice good colors for those things. There are good TN panels with good colors but not as good as IPS. If you don't really care about refresh rate then that's fine but I'm just going to say 144hz+ is a blast. Okay so you'll definitely want a +100hz monitor. Recommend 144 or 165hz with some kind of adaptive sync. At 1080p, you should be able to consistently hit +100fps for these games on max settings and most likely even at 1440p.

With that said, 27" is kinda big for 1080p. At that size, you should get a 144hz, 1440p monitor, or better. This should be doable in your price range. Also see if you can find a FreeSync monitor that plays nice with your GTX. I'd browse for you, but I don't shop in the EU. Check if these amazon sales are available in your country:

I use it and it's fantastic. 1440p feels so much nicer than 1080p and the 144hz feels smooth.

I'm sure there is someone out there that can do better than me! (edit: Obviously, you can change the case color. Switching to the h500i can give you that lighting with CAM. the h500i is 15 bucks more than the h500)

Both 27” monitors and Dell brand. I’m not 100% sure if Monitor 1 is GSYNC compatible but it is FreeSync compatible if you’re team Red. I use monitor 2 and its a great simple monitor, however doesn’t have GSYNC and only FreeSync.

These are both absolutely killer. The first link is the most powerful out of the two. Personally, intel is a very good processor, but AMD has really been killing it with Ryzen. You might want to consider going with similar components but a Ryzen professor instead. Regardless, both of these pc’s will run anything at 4K with relative ease, and you’ll be hitting 144hz in 1440p-1080p no problem.

Here are some cheaper options that would run FiveM just fine. They will run pretty much everything at top graphics in 1080p. You can also hit 1440p on some games.

Lastly I’ll include my monitor recommendation, I’d also recommend that you get two monitors personally. If your budget is $3,000 and you want to go all out, two monitors is a must have. Heck maybe even three monitors. If I had your budget, I’d do one of the top links and three of these bad boys.

That’s a really long link, but that’s a 144hz 1440p Free-sync monitor. Free-sync is compatible with both AMD and Nvidia cards.

Ultimately, I’d spend a few days doing some research before you turn loose of 3 grand! There’s a lot of options out there, and these are just a few of the pc’s I found in a 10 minute search. If you’re only interested in FiveM then you might not want to spend so much money. On the other hand, if you want to be able to play anything and everything, go for it! The Asus MG279Q is pricey but a great ips monitor that has it all.


The Dell S2719DGF is one of the better TN panels with 1ms response.

I have a Rocksoul RSGM-27M3 A, unfortunately I believe they're sold out on amazon all they have is the Rocksoul RSGM-27M3 C, the difference is one has a nice mount and the other is butt ugly. I got mine for $270 and its fantastic. If you see the A model come back with the black mount you should nab it up.

Except you're wrong on all counts. It's a 27" (That's the S27 part), and it's 1440p 144 Hz (155 OC).

Is an IPS panel and g-sync really worth twice the price?
