There are glossy IPS monitors as well, there's really not much reason to get a TN monitor.

I don't find the matte coating to be much worse than what I had on my old monitor, but I believe it has a pretty heavy coating, which I need because of windows, as well, so I may just be used to it.

I personally have the Asus PB258Q and I love it. My other monitor is a Dell S2340M.

AV I use Panda Anti-Virus Free and it works flawlessly. It's light weight and non-intrusive.

In addition to Panda I use Spybot S&D 2 which is an awesome program.

For system monitoring I use HWInfo64. It allows you to track your uptime, average temperature, highs and lows and current temperature. It's your all in one stop for hardware monitoring. It includes CPU speeds, GPU speeds, voltages, and much much more.

The entire Piriform suite of software that include Speccy, Defraggler, and CCleaner.

Rainmeter is a desktop custumization tool that allows you to put system information on your desktop along with email notifications, RSS feeds and much more. Here is my desktop.

Check Craigslist. Saw a decent 23" monitor going for $40 in my neighborhood (around $150 new).

Save the rest of your budget for a better monitor when prices are actually reasonable. Monitor prices are ridiculous right now.

They look like Dell S2340Ms.

SSD drives are smaller because flash memory is much more expensive to manufacture than spinning plates that come with an HDD.

The literal size is much smaller, modern day cases come with drive bays that are adaptable for both HDDs and SSDs and come with the proper screws.

The space is in gigabytes (Gb) instead of terabytes (Tb). 1 terabyte is 1024 Gb i believe.

For $200 I would suggest this monitor or an ASUS ips monitor.

At $100-200 you're not gonna get very quality monitors to match with your rMBP. However if you do get one, make sure you get a Thunderbolt to DVI cable and use that to connect to your monitor.

With that said, I'd recommend this. It's an Asus IPS monitor that's pretty good for the price.

Dell also offers a slightly better build with the same LCD panel here.

I just have a Dell one, but my needs are pretty limited.

You really should give a price range, monitors can range from ~$120 to ~$700.

The biggest thing to consider with a monitor on the lower end of the spectrum is if you want to shell out the extra money for an IPS display (better color representation, better viewing angles) or if you want to save some money and get a TN display. Additionally around the $300 mark you can also opt to get a TN display with a 144hz refresh rate which people say makes twitch shooters appear much more fluid, though I've never tried it. You would also have to be getting a high FPS to utilize this.

As a frame of reference here is a monitor I have been eying:

Its $145 new on Amazon. Consider lowering your price, I think these kind of monitors go for about $90 here.

u/ottosunday · 1 pointr/Monitors

From other owners of that monitor I've heard it's a good monitor.

Personally I'd suggest getting an IPS monitor.
Asus, Dell and LG (Can't find the LG model I'm looking for ATM) all have some affordable monitors around the price range of the one you listed.

Not sure if you've ever heard of AOC but they've got a couple decent monitors with good reviews like this one as well

The link you posted looks like a good deal. Another option I would consider would be this

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-293M3-IPS-LED-23-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B009H0XQRS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1368507393&sr=1-1&keywords=Dell+S2340M

Dell typically will have stricter requirements on the maximum number of dead pixels than Acer and the display is an IPS panel which is a nice improvement as well. I think either one would be a solid choice.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Oh, very sexy, I didn't think they made anything that was above 21.5" in the $150 price range.... Ha, here is the link to that model on Amazon. Apparently the 21.5" is $10 more! What the heck?

u/gittar · 1 pointr/buildapc

Acer H236HL vs Dell S2340M. can get either for $75.

The monitors back will be to the window but a very bright room. I don't know anything about monitors thanks for your help. 1080 gaming and netflix

u/chips_and_salsa · 1 pointr/battlestations

Erg. Sorry for the late reply. It's the Dell 2340M. Great monitor in my opinion. I'm thinking about getting another.

u/notwitty_username · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

This is the best monitor I've owned in a long time, my friend recently bought a 700 dollar version of this one, and I compared the two and the only difference is the expensive one was 27" and had slight color calibration from the factory. They both pretty much looked the same which was amazing.

Buy that Dell, its so pretty. They have a model with HDMI, but I like DVI.

u/xZora · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you wanted to save ~$200 that you can put towards getting a 770, you could pickup 2x Dell S2340M IPS monitors, instead of the U2412M ones. They're on Amazon for $159.99 each right now: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-293M3-IPS-LED-23-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B009H0XQRS/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1377028987&sr=8-12&keywords=dell+u2412m

u/jenesuispasbavard · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

I have a Dell S2340M/L (your pick, one has HDMI+VGA, the other has DVI+VGA) here in Austin for $100, if you can pick up.

Here it is on Amazon if you want to check out reviews: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009H0XQRS/

23", glossy, and IPS, just like you wanted, in the same city too. I've never had a more relevant /r/hardwareswap post.

u/welchplug · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

Nope turns out I bought an IPS... Just bought the best looking one at Best Buy at the time. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2340M-23-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B009H0XQRS

u/96accord · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

That's not too far away. I'm in Baltimore County.

I currently have 2x 23" Dell S2340m monitors (http://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2340M-23-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B009H0XQRS)

I was thinking about upgrading to 2x27" monitors but just checking out my options.

u/Quakemz · 1 pointr/buildapc

Of course. I really like this one. If you prefer a different brand or slightly sexier aesthetic (in my opinion) then this one is a great option. Don't get me wrong, 1440p is nice, especially from a productivity standpoint. You have so much screen real estate. But as far as gaming goes, I often prefer my smaller 1080p screen. Your 280x will feel a bit more at home with 1080p anyways.

u/zd9 · 1 pointr/mac

I use a Dell S2340M for my MBP. I haven't had any other monitors to compare it to, but it's pretty good and under 200$.

u/Streloks · 1 pointr/buildapc

Do you want 1080p? Maybe an IPS monitor like this

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009H0XQRS/?tag=pcpapi-20

That would start stretching the budget a bit, but there are cheaper options. This one looks good as well. Cheaper, but isn't IPS.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AX9Z6MU/?tag=pcpapi-20

u/teaearlgraycold · 1 pointr/buildapc

27" seems pretty big for 1080p still, unless you're going to be a couple of meters away from the screen.

After looking around it seems like 27" screens are around $100 more than 23-24" screen.

Here's my suggestion for a 23"

Here's my suggestion for a 27"

u/ajs1850 · 1 pointr/buildapc

if it was between this and this one which would you pick? Both are IPS as I decided that's what I'm going with.
