I wouldn't suggest a Chromebook unless all of your work is online. Chromebooks are basically just little laptops w/ Chrome browsers.
I suggest the XPS 13. These are great, high quality machines. They have an SSD so they're very quick, also a touch screen to be easy for people to use.
Another great laptop is the Thinkpad Carbon. A very quality and durable laptop; also has a touch-screen and SSD. Extremely thin and has a matte screen since there will probably be sun glare in cars and such. I highly suggest this model.
I own this one.. Less money than a macbook, better and even has a touchscreen. Weighs less than a mac book pro (non retina) and is convertible. I got the i7 model for $1100 Here are similarly spec-ed macbooks.
I think there is a better choice. Most applications like Photoshop don't have proper support for resolutions of higher than 1080p on Windows laptops. E.g. Photoshop looks like this on the Yoga 2 Pro and a resolution of 3200x1800p.
A better choice would be the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga:
It's better build, has a way better keyboard and touchpad and it's a little bit more user friendly regarding hardware upgrades. But be aware that both Lenovo Yogas (ThinkPad and the IdeaPad) have soldered RAM. You can't upgrade it. There is a version of the ThinkPad Yoga with a 256 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM for $1350. But I don't know if you want to spend that much.
Cheaper alternative with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD would be a Dell XPS 12 for $1200.
It's through the warehouse deals and it says that it may have a blemish or something.
