The Google Assistant api on a Raspberry Pi 3b is really great. You can tell it to cast to TVs, no problem. Ask questions, start timers, play games. Not all is great but it is just the GA not a full fledged Google Home. One limitation I have found is that you are not able to cast to this device to play music and even requesting a specific song to play on that device will not work. It also does not allow you to view it in the Google Home app. But the most frustrating thing about the GA running on a RPI3B is I have not yet discovered a way to enable the little beep to acknowledge it understood 'OK GOOGLE' and is ready for a command. All in all, I dig it and it's nice to have an assistant in my media room, but it took a while to understand the differences between GA and an GH.

Also, here is the mic I used. It is decent and can hear me across the room when the TV is on. I chose this mic because it is semi-directional and the RPI sits right next to the TV. I can point it toward the couch and it can generally hear me pretty well.

Good luck!

And if anyone figures out how to enable that fucking beep please let me know.

You can get a decent mic for $8 on amazon.

I get why people wouldn't want to be harassed, but there are plenty of non-asshats looking to add friends for PUGs. Having a foreign accent, or being female, doesn't make you unique for not wanting to play with jerks.

Logitech Webcam c270 and c920 work (have used them before), as does this USB mic (which I am currently using)

It's software,
I am looking for microphone itself, I can find headset with microphone but not just microphone.

Something like that

But wireless

Realistically, you're pretty much gonna need a mic. However, you're not going to necessarily need an expensive mic. Find something within your budget. With a little audio editing in Audacity (a free program), even a mic like this one can sound tolerable enough for Youtube.

If you can afford $20, this CAD U1 is actually a fantastic mic for the money.

If you can afford $40, I'd strongly recommend the CAD U37, which is the mic I used personally until I hit about 50,000 subscribers.

There are plenty of options out there even for an extremely tight budget, but you're going to need something in today's day and age.

Depends on how much you want to spend... i personally still use a cheap chinese $5 mic i bought like 5 years ago for Video interviews, and use the one integrated with my headphones (sony pulse i got when i played on my ps3) while gaming.

if i was a streamer or made video/audio content i would definitively consider getting a new one.

Amazon has a lot of options and unless you want to spend more than a couple of bucks in something like a Yeti or snowball blue, any will do the job.

Get these headphones. They sound amazing and they are so comfortable. You can pick up a cheap mic like this and you should be good.

Well you can apparently get a pretty decent mic for 6 bucks plus shipping on Amazon

Soo you could try that XP

Hello!

Welcome to the wonderful world of electronics.
Its scary at first, but lots of fun once you get started.

The device you have linked too is a Microphone that is designed to work with "tiny" computers called Microcontrollers.
It would be possible to attach it to a "computer" but that isnt what it is designed for.

Sparkfun Links to an example project that uses this microphone, to control some LED's -> https://negativeacknowledge.com/2008/06/11/final-lightbar-controller/

If thats not the kind of thing you are trying to do:

  1. Could you explain what it is you are trying to achieve.
  2. Why is something like a Cheap USB Microphone http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UZY2YQE/ Not what your looking for?

If that is what you are trying to do... well we will come to how best to achieve that when we know what it is your trying to achieve :)

u/The_Golden_Gun · 1 pointr/buildapc

You can do something like this. Obviously you may want a better quality one. Thats just the first on amazon. It would be much more simple than trying to get one built into the PC. As for your build, you have a k type CPU but not a Z type mobo. This means your CPU is able to be overclocked, but the mobo is not. Either get a Z170 mobo if you want to OC, or downgrade to the i7-6700 non k if you don't. Otherwise you are waiting money.

I advise trying it. Just remember it is a team-oriented game. Please use a mic, a cheap one is fine.
