> I want a built in preamp

I'd reconsider that part. A separate pre-amp can give you better sound. And with that budget of $600 total between speakers and the table, I think you could do better for Turntable/Phono Preamp/Speakers. I'd suggest:

I bought the Edifer R1700 bookshelf speakers about two months ago and I am 100% satisfied. I use them as speakers for my projector mostly, but I also use them paired up with a Chromecast Audio to listen to music.

They look like Edifier knock-offs to me. I wouldn't consider these "nice" speakers by any means. I also wouldn't really consider edifier as "nice" speakers, but they're getting there, and now offer some higher end stuff.

These were my first speakers and I think they are pretty good, the tone controls are nice but the electronic volume is kinda weird.

The Edifier R1700BT is another one to check out within your budget:

If you have room to use two speakers where they can be separated apart, you will get better stereo sound. In that case, consider these https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI

u/gremlin78 · 2 pointsr/vinyl

So I am connecting a Thorens TD 165 to this:

Pioneer SX-750 https://classicreceivers.com/pioneer-sx-750

then going from pioneer receiver to these speakers https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016PATXSI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and I am connecting the speakers to the receiver using speaker wire, and these adapters https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYV4AWL/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

so essentially I use those adapters to connect to back of speakers, from the speaker out connections on back of receiver. But there is a loud hum, and sound just has issues. I tried with another turntable, and could never establish solid connection. I assume its something to do with connection/adapters. Do I need an EQ of some kind, to connect the old school receiver to the new speakers that only have RCA connections? Any help is appreciated.

u/WTFyoukay · 2 pointsr/Amd

Edifier's - they are very solid little powered speakers. surprisingly loud without distortion too for their size.

u/Aberu1337 · 2 pointsr/vinyl

For 300 bucks personally I would go with decent Powered speakers. Make sure you pick up a phono preamp as well if you go this route as opposed to using an amp+passive speakers (which is much more expensive, unless you go used). That's the setup I did, minimalist, clean, decent value, but still relatively cheap. Here's my setup for example...

https://www.amazon.com/rolls-VP29-Phono-Preamp/dp/B0002BG2R2 - Rolls VP29 Phono Preamp

https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI - Edifier R1700BT Powered Speakers with Bluetooth - For the value these sound really awesome. Only downside is there are not great with lots of bass, they flubber. In retrospect I might have gotten something different, but most stuff I listen to isn't bass heavy so I'm not torn over it. I also wanted bluetooth in this room because it's a guest room.

https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Ject-Elemental-Gray-Turntable-Grey/dp/B01CZW826Y?th=1 - Pro-Ject Elemental Turntable - Great value turntable on the low-end if you buy new.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000513O4/ - Tripp Lite Isobar surge protector - Because I'm paranoid about this stuff and these are high end surge protectors that we use at work. They are bulletproof.

----------------------------------

So anyways... for 300 bucks you can pick up the same phono preamp and these...

https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R2000DB-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B01CDU3IAI

I hear the R2000's don't have the same bass issue that the r1700 does, but they cost a lot more. Edifier is kind of one of the best in value right now, it's "Chi-Fi" good. The hardcore audiophile kiddos are often brand-whores, so take their allegiance with a grain of salt and try to remain objective, read reviews, technical analysis, etc..

https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-A2-Powered-Speaker-System/

The A2's always get good reviews in this price range, I have no personal experience, but there are recent reviews that show problems with quality control, maybe the company is getting worse?

https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-2017-R-14PM-Powered-Monitor/dp/B075JRF295

A lot of people swear by the Klipsch powered monitors once you get into this price range, but I don't have any personal experience, maybe someone else can chime in, just showing it here because you might want to consider it, read about them more.

https://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Signature-S20-Bookshelf/dp/B01LVWWXQG

These are just barely in the price range, definitely consider them, my friend has a Polk setup and he loves it. These seem to get good reviews from hip hop heads too, so the bass response must be good.

It really depend on your musical taste, the room, what kind of setup you are wanting to go with overall and for what purpose though. If you want to be able to handle everything, up the budget, or buy used honestly. If you stay on a small budget and buy new, you are going to have to have compromises. I was wiling to have that compromise, but others may not.

Firstly, if you want a better sound than these go with the https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI. If you don’t need Bluetooth and want to save money get the R1280T. Having said that, the bass is excellent (not subwoofer excellent) but it’s great for a speaker of this size. The highs are crisp and clean. The construction/heft of the cabinet probably contributes to the warm sound. The remote is just a small membrane type. Response to button input from it is immediate. I thought I would use these with Bluetooth but after hearing the difference between the compressed sound caused by Bluetooth vs direct connection I decided to wire these. This guy https://youtu.be/ApdsaDkvoj8 does some awesome reviews on YouTube. He lets hear the actual difference in the sound between the types of speakers. Since I’m just going with the wired connection I could have purchased the R1280Ts and saved $29. Anyway I’m totally happy with the clear, room filling sound of these speakers.

u/chris480 · 2 pointsr/audiophile

I'm comparing the recommended Micca PB42X to these two speakers. To be used in a home office setting

Edifier R1700BT or Mackie CR4 LTD

All around good reviews for the 3 systems. Thoughts?

u/NoCuntryForOldMen · 2 pointsr/homegym

These are wired so you would have to plug them in but they have Bluetooth and have really good sound quality. If you don’t need to move your speakers around then might as well get something like that.

u/tlopwasaflop · 2 pointsr/macsetups

If you're set on Bluetooth and want a simple all-in-one setup get these.

However, I have to recommend the Chromecast Audio - so much more reliable than Bluetooth, better sound quality, and easier to connect to. I'd pair it with this amp and these speakers. If you're feeling adventurous go this route but you'll be happy with either coming from Bose.

You can sell the unused monitor on /r/hardwareswap to recuperate some cash. Even if you don't want to get rid of it, I'd still move it so there's space for the speakers and they aren't being blocked.

Some reference monitors would probably be a good place to start. I'm not as familiar with those vs passive speakers and I'm not familiar with pricing in your currency, so maybe someone else can chime in with some better recommendations.

But something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_v7F4CbGHPBGNM

Thatd probably be your best launchpad to start doing some research about what will work for you.

Depends on if you think might upgrade in the future, if you're not worried about that, $185 before tax for the gear below.

Less flexible , as they're powered monitors, but for $150, great deal. Edifer powered bookshelf

For audio, Chromecast audio, since you said you mostly stream, it's a fantastic device.

u/deplorable-d00d · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

You may like them. They're not bad!

Having something at arms reach would be preferable to trying to use them as a wider speaker setup in a room, because of each monitor has individual power and gain controls.

Will it sound good for you, sure. Will it thump? No, not really. Is there an easy way to add a sub, sure, throwing money at it with a pro sub that has an active crossover inside it.

Best thing to do is audition them. Monitors won't sound 'bad' at all, but it just may not be what you'd expect.

-----

I'd look into Edifiers (or Swan), for more ease of use and connectivity

u/machinehead933 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Edifier R1700BT are good options for the price. BT compatible so you might not even need to hook them up wired from your Macbook, and even if not - still a nice bonus feature to hook up to your phone or something. They are powered speakers so you won't need an amp or anything, and they have some other nice features like a remote, bass/treble gain control etc...

u/Einsteins_coffee_mug · 2 pointsr/edrums

I've played mine through my cheapo monitors jamming along with my other gear and they sound surprisingly good. (These are [edifier bookshelf "monitors"](Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Active Near-field Studio Monitors - Powered Speakers 2.0 Setup Wooden Enclosure - 66w RMS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gTZDzb0VDTHMM) that I'm talking about.) it's not amazing, my headphones sound perfect, there's a loss of low end through the monitors.

If you've got a subwoofer to generate the nice thuds off your bass and toms there's no reason you can't get great sound from those monitors.

But like you said, it's for practice. You should be fine. If they're good enough to play back your recordings, it's good enough for jamming around with. On your own.

I've played through a three piece edrum amp with a setup similar to this back on my Yamaha DTXplorer and it was great. I'd love to put my TD25 through that kind of set up. You'd barely notice it wasn't an acoustic kit.

u/shoffer · 2 pointsr/audiophile

Been looking into a comparison between the Klipsch R-15PM and the Edifier R1700BT.

Would be using them to listen to music with bluetooth and also would connect them to a TV. Wondering if listening via bluetooth negates any better sound quality from the more expensive set. Also, just generally if the Klipsch speakers are worth the extra $200. I listen to a lot of taper recordings from live concerts, so music is definitely the priority.

(x-posting from r/budgetaudiophile)

u/agamemnon2 · 2 pointsr/vinyl

You can pair that off with either a pair of active (powered) speakers or a separate amp/receiver and passive speakers. For a 200 dollar budget, I think powered speakers will give you more bang for your buck and less hassle. Something like hese Edifiers might do the trick, they got a 4-star review from What Hi-Fi? and support multiple wired inputs (and bluetooth) and have a remote: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1519589800&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=powered+speakers&psc=1

However, if you want to go vintage and can spare the extra space, having a separate amp or receiver opens up options like hooking up other sources (TV, CD, bluetooth devices, radio, etc) easier. This is the route I went with, pairing a vintage early 80s receiver with a pair of thrift store speakers. It's not the world's most elegant solution so if space is at a premium, you might want to look elsewhere. For reference, here's how much space my current setup takes: https://scontent-arn2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/21231153_10213692597165419_7389388015653979636_n.jpg?oh=48add213e3e7983b782dafd02e2d1471&oe=5B46D8CD Mine's not a particularly large receiver either, they can get much bigger than that.

Looking for student-cheap speakers for a small dorm room that will be by the desk/computer setup.

Will be connected to a computer. I enjoy any genre (prefer jazz. Enjoy a good bass tho), and will be used to supplement gaming and movies.

Prefer the budget to be sub or equal to $150.

I've seen these two through some quick google searches for being good options

Edifier R1700BT (a website called lightinthebox has them for $99, but never heard of the site before)

getting an AT-LP120 and these speakers for xmas and was wondering what else i would need to buy to get the best sound quality possible (besides better speakers obviously)? different preamp, amp, needle, receiver, new cartridge? i know nothing about turntables yet so please help me out. i wanna make sure i'm hearing the records perfectly and not slowly damaging them or something

edit: i also am aware that the speakers aren't great and are more meant for computers but i can't justify nice speakers yet especially after the $250 turntable. would the at-lp120 and those speakers be all i need to start listening right away as well?

u/Tadg900 · 1 pointr/hometheater

I would recommend powered bookshelf speakers.

Something like these will be cheaper and sound much better considering it has duel 4" woofers (bigger surface area = more output) and dedicated full size tweeters. Sure it's bigger but when you afford a subwoofer to go with it. It will beat any sound bar for the price.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B016PATXSI/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1503620358&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=powered+bookshelf+speakers&dpPl=1&dpID=51jbS0P7N6L&ref=plSrch

Tldnr:
Sound bars are overpriced for SQ.
Powered bookshelf speakers are bulkier but superior in terms of accurate sound reproduction and output/loudness.

You can also choose what subwoofer you want to use.

You describe DIY, but needing to connect speaker wires isn't really DIY. I think you're describing buying speakers, and a separate amplifier. You would connect the amplifier to your PC, and the speakers to the amplifier. It's a really, really simple process.

However, if you really aren't wanting that route, a pair of powered speakers simplifies things. Powered speakers connect to your PC and have the amplifier built in. You would still run a wire between the 2 speakers, but this wire will be included. You then just need to connect those speakers to your PC, super simple.

These Edifer Speakers would be good for you, and are right on budget.

Hi guys, I am looking for some Studio Monitors around $150, First time getting one of those

I don't usually ask for help but recently the speakers of my TV died (I've been using it since 2009) and I am looking for some Studio Monitors around $150 because I only can afford that at the moment.

I have these in mind because I read some great reviews about them and I like the Bluetooth option but I am open to others too.

Some notes is that I have connected the TV to my PC and the new monitors will goo to the PC for music and play the guitar.

I appreciate the help you offer to other people who are not audiophile enthusiastic, I am one of them.

Also I mostly listen to Classic Rock and I am willing to buy used.

u/RTNul · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Depends what you want. Studio monitors tend to be flat and analytical. Speakers made for music and media tend to be tuned to be more "fun".

I recommend going somewhere you can listen to a bunch of different speakers to find out what you like.

Personally I went for [these] (https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=sr_1_1?crid=301PKQ51N7R8X&keywords=edifier+r1700bt&qid=1574614670&sprefix=edifier+%2Caps%2C286&sr=8-1) with an active sub. So far no regrets.

Hey, thanks so much... this look perfect. I've got a few more questions if you don't mind. What does active mean? And also, how difficult would it be to add a subwoofer to this setup? Finally, do I need to get anything else to make these functional?

A stereo amp and some bookshelf speakers, or powered monitors. In Australia, the best budget brand is Edifier I think. If you want something a little nicer, Mission LX-1 or LX-2 bookshelf speakers would do, they just need an external amp.

https://www.amazon.com.au/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/

Z390 boards can run RAM above 2666MHz and can adjust the CPU voltage + frequency.

I would recommend an air cooler up until the point of a 280mm AIO.

m.2 and 2.5" are physical sizes, nothing to do with performance. You can get SATA drives in both sizes, but the fastest SSD's use PCI-E, which can also run on m.2 slots.

It depends on the game and your settings. Higher resolution puts more stress on the GPU, a higher refresh puts more load on the CPU, GPU, and RAM. (Not memory capacity, the performance)

Storage does not impact FPS, only load times.

So yes, GPU is the most important normally.

Need a good speaker set. Something that can thump hip hop / beats.

Would these do the job?

u/DickKickem2002 · 1 pointr/vinyl

I'm looking for some recommendations for some bookshelf speakers that would work with a receiver. I'm currently thinking of purchasing a Yamaha R-S202BL Stereo Receiver ( Link ) and was thinking of purchasing the Edifier R1700BT Bookshelf Speakers ( Link ). But it seems the speakers wont work with a receiver. I'm fairly new to HI-FI but I am taking this seriously so any recommended speakers in that price range would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

u/Combatical · 1 pointr/battlestations

Edifier R1700BTsolid speakers for the price and they are bluetooth.

u/esteban42 · 1 pointr/vinyl

I've heard really great things about these: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI

but I don't have a set.

u/sircod · 1 pointr/googlehome

That is a much better solution. The audio quality on the Mini is so poor you would really be better off getting some decent bookshelf speakers. You could also get some decent speakers with bluetooth and pair them directly to the Mini.

u/AbacabLurker · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

Are you going to want tone control? Bass and treble adjustment? A remote? Bluetooth? More than one input? The Edifier R1700BT get good reviews, have these features, and seem inline with what you are looking for. $149.

Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Active Near-Field Studio Monitors - Powered Speakers 2.0 Setup Wooden Enclosure - 66w RMS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_abv-BbD5E9TJM

Upgrading to the R2000db would give you better sound but cost you $249. I’ve never hear these speakers but found myself down a similar path as you a few years back and this is where I ended up before I shifter my strategy altogether.

I’ll turn it over to anyone here who has actual experience with Edifier to chime in.

u/HiviSpeakers-Michael · 1 pointr/audiophile

I hate recommending a competitor, but we're out of stock on our own bluetooth bookshelves.

This are better than the Klispsh. Haven't heard the Saxx's yet.

I have this turntable: https://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT-LP60BK-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable/dp/B008872SIO/ref=sr_1_3 and it works great. It has a built-in pre-amp, which is very convenient.

If you'd like to rip the vinyl to your computer, you'll want the USB version: https://www.amazon.com/AT-LP60BK-USB-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable-USB/dp/B016YYFZS2/ref=sr_1_3

As for speakers, I highly recommend these Edifier speakers: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280T-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016P9HJIA/ref=sr_1_1 They are powered and produce a really full sound. You'll even see my review on Amazon, look for the Avett posters. :)

If you want to spend a bit more cash, my friend has the Bluetooth version: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=sr_1_3

u/The_Punniest · 1 pointr/audiophile

I have it narrowed down to the Micca PB42x's and these

Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Active Near-field Studio Monitors - Powered Speakers 2.0 Setup Wooden Enclosure - 66w RMS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_zEqNybWMQW41J

And also,

Plugable 4" Subwoofer Bluetooth 2-Channel Powered Bookshelf Studio Monitor Speakers - Optical & RCA Aux Inputs, 55W Output Power https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KGPEW70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ODqNyb2HQK3E8

Does anyone have any experience with either? I like the idea of having Bluetooth for my girlfriend to use on occasion.

u/mattSER · 1 pointr/audiophile

It's crazy that it's a tower that only goes down to 85hz. Almost any modern bookshelf speaker will deliver deeper, more powerful bass.

You're better off with these:
https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280T-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016P9HJIA

Or, if you need bluetooth, these:

Anybody have an opinion regarding the Edifier R1700BT's? I'm looking to get speakers for my desktop for general use(gaming/music/etc) and these match my desk really well.

Am I over-spending or picking something vastly worse than another product around or less than the same price?

Also, would I NEED a DAC or AMP to run these, or is that just another luxury?

u/Crozierking · 1 pointr/vinyl

Okay after looking at the Mackie CR4s I'm thinking the Edifier R1700BT bookshelf speaker Would suit all my needs. I like the Design, they're self-powered, and the bookshelf is superior to the single speaker design correct?

u/burgerga · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

They have several models. I have this one but they are all very highly rated on Amazon.

u/z3rik23 · 1 pointr/hometheater

Aha! This is it. Thanks for finding the multi ch stereo option. I think this is the best solution as well.

One follow up question: would it be possible to use these active speakers as the second pair?

Will I be able to convert the RCA input on the speaker to copper cable using an Adaptor and plug them straight into the amps surround channels?

u/chill_cosby · 1 pointr/vinyl

[$100-$200] I'm looking for some nice bookshelf speakers. I've been eyeing these ones from amazon, as they have pretty great reviews and the fact that they're bluetooth(for using with Amazon Echo). Anyone have experience with these? Or recommendations on something better within my price range(bonus points for bluetooth compatibility)?

u/_mutelight_ · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Thank you!

These are good bang for the buck. You'd just need a 3.5mm to stereo RCA cable.

Hi all, got a question about speakers and record player set-up in general. I would like to set up an old record player (Fisher MT-6420), and I was able to get a receiver with phono preamp from my uncle (ONKYO Quartz Synthesized Tuner Amplifier RI - not sure if specs matter, but putting them here just in case). Last thing I would need is a set of speakers, most seem to recommend the Edifier R1280T as a good starter set. However I would like my speakers to have Bluetooth as well, so I was considering getting instead the Edifier R1700BT which are $50 more and have Bluetooth capabilities.

My question is, is this still a good set up (Fisher + ONKYO + Edifier 1700BT)? I cannot seem to find on the amazon web page if these have passive capabilities. If not, any recs on other speakers that double as passive speakers but also have Bluetooth capabilities?

Thanks!

u/lattiboy · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

Those would be fine, but if you're going that route these will be much better:

u/Linuturk · 1 pointr/audiophile

I'm looking for a simple active speaker that accepts aux input and has a powered USB port. Bonus points for the PlayStation style power cord.

I plan on pairing each speaker with a Chromecast for a full house audio system.

I'm hoping I can get better quality speakers than the typical portable Bluetooth types. I don't want to pay for batteries and waterproofing if I don't need them. I also am trying to avoid the Sonos and Bose types. They seem expensive and come with their own wireless connectivity and smarts that the Chromecast will provide.

[edit]
Here are some suggestions and/or speaker sets I've found in my searches. Let me know which one you would prefer:

Near field. Interesting stuff, thank you.

Given that, these seem ideal. Built-in amplifier, Bluetooth connectivity, remote control, even physical knobs on the speaker if I wanted to use them.

Hello friends. I've been a vinyl collector and listener for about 2 years now, and I'm finally looking to move towards a more advanced set-up. Here's my current player: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K9ER5L8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I haven't done an extraordinary amount of reserach, but I'm really interested in getting an Audio-Technica, specifically I've been looking at the LP3: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRDMKG5/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1BUH46KY8R8R5&colid=1EJXO93Y8SK8S.

I've also been looking at these speakers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2BE3IGG8CFF7J&colid=1EJXO93Y8SK8S, because I really want to focus on a wood style with my whole set-up as much as possible.

Is it possible for these two pieces to work without any other parts? I would love to hear anything you guys know about these products or any other advice you have for a newby like myself. Ideally, I would put my budget at around $400-450, but if I needed a receiver, etc. I'd bump it to $600-650.

u/YourVeryOwnCat · 1 pointr/vinyl

I'm looking for some good speakers and I find ones that also have Bluetooth. It would be nice to also be able to play stuff from my phone but then I thought, does it digitize the analog audio from the turntable? These are the ones I'm taking about

First real turntable upgrade after disowning my Crosley all-in-one shredder and it'll be good to start giving my collection the love it deserves. I also upgraded my computer desktop speakers to these guys which should be arriving today as well. Today was a good day.
