I've been running competitively for over 13 years, and I can't say that I always love running. Sure, I enjoy a run every once and a while, but what I do love is working hard towards challenging goals, achieving them, and competing with others.

To get in the zone, I recommend a book called "Elite Minds" by Stan Beecham. Really what it comes down to is eliminating your fear during a race, and focusing only on the task rather than thinking inwardly about yourself, your pain, etc. too much.

For carrying stuff, buy one of these:

You can use ziplock bags to keep your stuff dry inside. You don't need water or food.
