It's was hastily written and poorly researched. Also a ton of errors in it, like misspelling some of his song titles and stuff. Even the author apologized for it a few years ago, like "dude they really wanted something out for the first anniversary of his death." He also didn't really interview anyone who knew him IIRC so it's just a bad read all around.

Def recommend this one: Elliott Smith by Autumn De Wilde She knew him really well and directed the Son of Sam video, so it's a cool picture book/collection of interviews about his life with close friends of his. Comes with a nice live show of his as well so def worth it.

The other good one is the 33 1/3 about XO. Really well researched and there's a lot of insight into the recording process. He actually spoke to everyone involved and goes into his artist history really well.

If you can find Torment Saint for like, a dollar and you're bored, maybe give it a go. Otherwise, save your time
