Here's what I purchased after several days of research: Eluktronics Pro-X for $950

Eliminated most of the laptops recommended in this range (G3/G5, Helios, Omen) due to quality issues and looking too gamer-ish

How is Eluktronics as a brand? I personally have never heard of them, but this laptop from the list looks REALLY well built and the specs are awesome. Any opinions, based on experience or not, are VERY appreciated!

For animation and rendering, you need a powerful preferably quad core processor, minimum 8 GB RAM (16 GB is great), a solid dedicated graphics card (recommend one of the 1000 series cards) and of course, a fast storage (an SSD is ideal)... You will also need a very good display and cooling system. Based on all the requirements listed above, this Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro-X Premium laptop would be an awesome pick for you.. It has a very powerful new ntel Core i7-7700HQ Quad core processor, great 16 GB RAM , a powerful 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti dedicated graphics card and a fast 256 GB SSD... This will run Autodesk and Adobe programs, primarily Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premier Pro etc very well.. It also ticks your other criteria boxes :

✓ Great build quality

✓ Solid backlit keyboard with number pad..

✓ Additional slot for another storage drive..

✓ Decent battery life

✓ High quality 15.6" Full HD IPS LED Anti-Glare IPS 1080 Display..

What do you think about this one? 256 SSD 16 GB RAM - easy to upgrade. The 1060 gets just a bit too expensive for me...

What are the differences between P650HP6 and N850HP6 ? Why is the first one so much more expensive?

u/LonerIM2 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I hope you don't mind me answering here .

The Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro-X has a GTX 1050 Ti with 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD which is faster than the normal SSD in the Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro.

While I recommend the Eluktronics N850HP6 Pro because it comes with GTX 1060.

Are you going to edit on the internal display and is color accuracy important? Acer VX5 screen is better than low quality TN but only 55% sRGB.

The ASUS GL553VD, assuming it does actually come with the screen in this review and isn't a panel lottery, is actually quite good. GPU is only a 1050 though.

This Eluktronics has a nice display with good-but-not-quite-as-good sRGB coverage but better response time for gaming. And better battery life than the either the ASUS or Acer. A bit over if you want to match the specs of the others, though, and that's before adding your own HDD.

Can also get a refurb Inspiron 7567 4K IPS model for $1016 from the Dell Outlet using coupon code AFF10Ins7567 . Though I'd check high DPI scaling compatibility for all the software you plan to use if you were to choose this screen. Adobe CC currently does not fully support high DPI but there are workarounds and full support is coming. I see a few threads on Google from 2015/2016 about Sony Vegas not scaling correctly, not sure if that has been resolved. I'd only choose something with 4K if the current situation in all the programs you plan to use is acceptable. Also: All the refurb FHD Inspiron 7567 models in the Dell Outlet seem to be the low quality TN panel version rather than ones with the recently added IPS upgrade option -- which is better than low quality TN but in this case I think is still only 55% sRGB. 4K Inspiron 7567 is 97% sRGB.

I'll also add: I'd look for pre-made calibration profiles for these displays. ASUS has one on the review page, Eluktronics uses the same screen as this. Inspiron 7567 is... well it's the SHP1450 panel. Can't remember if I found a calibration profile for it before.

The one you suggested actually seems like a really good deal.

I was looking at these from Eluktronics which seem to be the previous model based on the name scheme from 850 to 870. The one you just showed me is a bit of a better deal with the higher size SSD available.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I was looking at -this one-. 256GB PCIe SSD + 16GB RAM. Im also additionally going to purchase a small int. ssd and a ext. 7200rpm drive.

u/Orangematz · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

If you need more RAM, how about this?

u/bakerfaceman · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thanks! I also found this machine that is similar to the Sager: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XSGYFC6

I'm really torn at this point.

At 0.1 lb over what you stated I would recommend the Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro

  • Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
  • 15.6” Full HD IPS Display
  • 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM

This is the perfect balance between work and play as you get a powerful gaming pc with a somewhat professional look. you get an IPS display which supports a wide viewing angle. If you want a lighter system with a fully professional look the Asus UX501VW-XS72 ZenBook Pro is a good alternative. The processor and graphics card are not as powerful as the Eluktronics but you get a more professional look

recommend N850HK1 from Eluktronics because it comes with a much better screen and it's a newer model, but it is more expensive. Alternatively you can go with the Acer VX 15. Avoid the HP Pavilion, it has trouble cooling and the build quality is not the best.
