I would suggest looking into the Eluktronics P650 for $1500. There's an option with a 120HZ 1080p display (many gamers prefer the higher refresh rate), or one with a "4K" display (not a true 4k). These would be comparable to the Alienware you mentioned with an Intel Kaby lake i7-7700HQ processor, 16GB of ram, a 256GB PCIE SSD and a 1TB HDD, and a GTX 1060 dGPU, while weighing 5.8lbs. Definitely worth looking into in an effort to save your back some stress.

If you want a better idea of the market right now, consider checking my laptop recommendation guide.

How about it Eluktronics P650HP6 because it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, 1 TB of HDD for storage, UHD 4k IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, 1060 GPU for gaming, and it is within your budget.

For Solidworks especially and if you run other CAD software, you will definitely need a solid quad core processor, preferably an i7, 16 GB RAM, a decent dedicated graphics card and of course, an SSD would be a great ''have''... If you are okay with a little under 6 pounds as weight, this 2017 Eluktronics P650HP6 15.6" Ultra HD 4K IPS Graphic Design Laptop would be a great pick.. It has a powerful and new 7th gen quad core i7 processor, nice 16 GB RAM, fast 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD Storage and of course, the powerful GTX 1060 6 GB graphics card. In addition, it has a great display quality , good heat management and a very sturdy build.. The Battery life is not great, but not terrible either.

1070

1060 with 1080p

4k 1060

Then there is this 1070 that seems the same as the other but it's $50 cheaper?

I think you should check out the Eluktronics P650HP6 15.6" Ultra HD 4K IPS Graphic Design Laptop -

  • Intel i7-7700HQ Quad Core
  • 6GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 VR Ready

This system is worth it for $1500 as it has everything you need for a good price. The IPS screen will provide a wide viewing angle and you will also be happy with the resolution you get. The processor and the video card are powerful enough to run the games you need quite well
