I feel your pain. I'm 33 and had almost the exact change in my skin around your age. After a lot of trial and error, I have a pretty good routine, so I'll share what's worked for me. On occasion I still get a cyst on my chin, but it's nothing like I used to deal with. Here's what I do:

  1. Supplements. I really feel that acne like this is a systemic problem and not something that you can make dissapear with a topical product alone. I take 20mg of zinc daily. If you only do one thing, the zinc is my number 1 recommendation. I also added in a B-complex supplement after reading about how a deficiency in B vitamins can lead to oily skin. I like this one because it doesn't have a huge amount of B12 in it like other brands. Large doses of B12 is known to make people break out.

  2. Tea. Drinking tea might sound cliche, but there's a lot of research into the effects of different kinds of tea on acne and hormones. Also, replacing the other crap I was drinking with iced tea has certainly been beneficial to my health in general. I make my own blend by mixing loose green tea with spearmint (anti-androgen) and ginger (anti-inflammatory). It's cheaper to just buy the ingredients and mix it up yourself, or you can buy one already mixed like this.

  3. Moisturizer. You asked about a good moisturizer, so here goes. My all time favorite is Murad Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 30 for Blemish Prone Skin. You can buy it locally at Sephora or Ulta. It's pricey at around $40 for 1.7oz. I can usually find a large bottle meant for professionals that's 8oz for around $60 on ebay though. Over the years I've periodically tried to use different moisturizers and always break out terribly and go back to Murad. I don't care much for other Murad products, but for some reason this moisturizer is really good.

  4. Topicals. I always felt that BP did more harm than good for my skin, although it was somewhat effective. Salicylic acid never seemed to do anything. I used to use tea tree oil, and it was somewhat effective and gentler than BP but not a rock star. In the end, what did it for me was products containing sulfur. Prior to the discovery of BP in the 1960's, sulfur had been the acne treatment of choice, and yet it seems all but completely forgotten now. There are tons of products out there, from spot treatments to masks. One of my favorites is the End Zit Drying Lotion. End Zit is really good but it can make my skin dry and irritated. I alternate that with Earth's Care Acne Spot Treatment which is not as drying.
