Downvotes and rude comments are awarded on a near random basis determined by who happens to be looking at your comments at a particular time. I've noticed no such organized pattern against new and/or uninformed people, and would need to be referred to individual comments in order to decipher why someone might downvote or rudely respond to them.

One thing I try to keep fairly constant, though, is that when someone starts asking a bunch of internet strangers to not hurt their feelings, I try to needle them about it as much as possible. So we'll start with some soothing cream for your massive butthurt.

Also totally anecdotal, and also my friend, who found this stuff to help her a lot (I use it myself, it has neem oil - but is not smelly!): Babytime! Soothing cream
