Max out your RAM to 16GB and if you are handy you can replace your superdrive with a second drive and run all of your sessions from there:

I'd say if you have the funds go for an SSD for your main boot drive, it'll really breathe new life into your Mac!

Absolutely. Its easy to do it, and ifixit actually has a tutorial on it along with many other ones . Essentially you’ll need an ssd caddy like this one:

ESYNiC 2.5inch 9.5mm 2nd Hard... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01I15ZVKY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share (worked flawlessly on my 2011)

Unplug and remove the DVD drive (connected by a sata cable in couple of places iirc)

Then swap the DVD drive with that caddy, and inside the caddy you’ll install your secondary ssd. Ssd will plug and play to the same sata cable as the optical drive.

Edit: to clarify, everything will work as it did before however now you’ll see an additional storage drive. No additional steps are required.

You can replace the internal super drive with a 2.5” drive caddy.

Have you tested his current hard drive to make sure it’s not dying? I wouldn’t recommend leaving it in alongside the ssd if it is.

That is if your iMac even has a dvd drive to begin with. It’s late and I’m spacing pretty hard on if the 2013 iMacs has dvd drives
