As a drummer, I've found it's really tough to get a pair of IEM's with a good seal without breaking the bank. Drummers move around a lot, and that causes most of the universal sets to pop out of the ear canal pretty easily. The best I found that weren't custom were from Etymotic:

The three-tiered silicone tips they use sit pretty deep in the ear canal and seal pretty well. Downside is that they get really damn uncomfortable after an hour or two of use. My original Shure's were more comfortable to wear, but the seal always broke, and by the end of a gig, my ears were hurting.

In the end, I saved up and sunk some cash into a pair of AE3's from 64 Audio. I'll never switch back to universals, the difference is astonishing. If you can swing it, go the custom route. Your ears will thank you.

For insane isolation nothing beats Etymotic IEMs.

You have two options:

  • stay a little under your budget: hf5 and get very linear IEM with an emphasis on vocals and detail

  • go a little over budget: ER3XR and get a mildly warm sounding IEM with detachable cables.

The most common issue with headphone durability is the cable attachment. That is why many of us, such as myself, will no longer buy headphones without detachable cables. In that price bracket, your best options are the GR07 Bass Edition (detachable version), the Ikko OH1, or the Etymotic ER3XR. The GR07 and the ER3XR are the closest in sound signature to your MSR7s, but the GR07 do also have a reputation of the housing needing to be reglued every once in a while. The most durable of the three will likely be the ER3XR as they have a metal housing. It would probably be my recommendation if durability is your #1 concern. Purchase links for all three can be found below:

Why do earplugs need such concha complications?

Why aren't you just using normal pharmacy foam earplugs?

If you want something reusable you could try music concert earplugs that reduce certain damaging sounds.
