I don't know if this is allowed but I would love to enter my hubby. He struggles with his weight and tries so hard to lose it. Including running 2-4 miles and going to the gym a few times a week. He is over 300lbs and would love to lose 25 or more pounds. This would help him stick to a goal. It is in my for him list. His weight causes him back pain so him losing weight would help out tremendously.

I am a fan of this particular model.

It's billed as being a "fat loss monitor with scale", so it serves a dual purpose. Although this method of measuring body fat is not the most accurate, but it's still great for comparison over time.

I got a fat monitoring scale (this one) and, while I'm sure it's not accurate on an absolute scale, it's consistent. I can watch my body fat increase if I don't work out for a while and then go down after I pick up cardio again.

This relies on you measuring when you're at the same level of hydration each time, though.

Cool site! I seem to fluctate between 17-22% BF. Measurements come from a Omron HBF-400 scale.

BF measurements can vary wildly between different products. The best advice is to pick one method and stick with it. The individual numbers by themselves don't really matter - you are comparing the numbers against themselves over time to identify trends. (If it wasn't obvious my day job involves data analyst stuff. :-P)

Few explanations combined maybe:

(1) You sweat in the shower. You breath out a bit of water. This is probably the biggest difference. Also, you are a bigger guy, so you likely sweat more than others. Was it a long shower (>10 minutes)? That would give you more time to sweat off more water.

(2) Scale affected by temp, humidity, slight movement between calibrations could result in variation.

(3) You shaved or brushed your teeth in the shower ... spit out water and removed hair maybe worth a few oz.

(4) You cleaned off dead skin cells and other stuff ... a couple oz?

(5) Your scale may vary your weight based on how you stand on it ... too much weight in the heel may be recoded lower (or higher) than evenly divided weight. You could experiment.

I've had very consistent results with the Omron HBF-400 (in terms of weight, the body fat % check is less accurate though it is also consistent), but it has a 330 lbs limit.

Wow, that is disconcerting. Obesity is a disease of many causes, and keto mostly addresses the metabolic/dietary cause of excess glucose & insulin. Ever thought about getting your thyroid levels checked? You may want to consider getting a BIA device; that way if you are losing fat and gaining muscle, you may have a better chance of noticing it and keeping up with your plan.

Some more in-depth exploration of the science of obesity may be in order. This video is long, but you may find it highly interesting. Pay attention to the part about caloric intake, delta E, compensatory behavior, and so forth. This is the main reason I don't believe in calorie restriction.

I recently got the Omron HBF 400

are you saying scales, going through soles of feet, are less effective? it might not be accurate, but it seems to be fairly good telling me when my body has changed for whatever reason

u/ryanxp · 1 pointr/loseit

I'm not a fan of the biggest loser scale; mine only lasted 6 or 7 months before it started to become inaccurate.

What I use now is this Omron scale, although it only goes up to 330: Amazon Link

Great scale; I wear a size 16/17 shoe and my feet fit on it - the weighings are usually pretty consistent. Hope this helps!

Honestly not sure. This is the scale I have
