There are a great many things you and I have disagreed with over the years, but your opinions on Schiit (and possibly the SPH9500s) will probably always be at the top of the list.

The Atom doesn't have a DAC which is 90% of what people are looking for in the low end of this stuff (in my experience) to solve shitty noisy outputs, so on it's own, it's not even relevant to the conversation in my eyes at least. It would have to be paired with a (to be fair, cheap) DAC.

The FiiO K3 is a perfectly fine alternative to the Fulla, so if it's more your style or simply seems easier to you than ordering from the states it's a good choice. It's got some decent features that you may or may not be interested in.

I still fully recommend the Fulla to anyone looking in the lower pricing tiers and strongly recommend the magni/modi combo to anyone willing to spend more and "set it and forget it." My experience with Schiit has been quality products that last, work great, and are made in North America, which I appreciate. If I notice any of that start changing myself then my opinion will start changing, but in the meanwhile I dig Schiit.

You might consider looking at a real DAC and USB Headphone amp Combo. FiiO isn't bad and will be better than creative labs stuff. Here is a link https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E10K-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B07KR3RF4H?th=1. I'm sure there is a reddit for audiophile/hi-fi stuff. You can ask there and they will point you in the right direction. You can specify a budget too. It would also be good to know what headphones you use now.

Look at the Fiio K3. Might be enough and costs only 100. ( https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Headphone-Amplifier-Computer-Balanced/dp/B07KR3RF4H )

3a xl here. It's way better than the one on my 2 XL.

Joking aside, google has never had an enthusiast attitude toward audio quality. I'm not an audiophile and always found the audio to be fine on my pixels, but google doesn't really use high-quality DACs like other phone manufacturers.

If you care about audio quality, you can use the USB-C output and use a usb-c dac amp like here: https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Headphone-Amplifier-Computer-Balanced/dp/B07KR3RF4H Note, I'm not reviewing the above dac/amp and I've never used it, just giving an example of a usb-c option.

Also, if you're planning on getting a pair of good headphones, it's worth it to invest in a DAC/AMP combo instead of plugging directly to your PC

Something like the Fiio K3 or Fiio Q1 is going to make a difference if you have a nice pair of headphones.

u/anamorphism · 2 pointsr/webdev

to be fair, most laptops and phones (assuming your phone still has a headphone jack) have 'decent' dacs.

otherwise, you can get really great portable usb amp/dacs for about $100. something like this: https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Headphone-Amplifier-Computer-Balanced/dp/B07KR3RF4H

The FiiO k3 is more than enough to drive those headphones to its fullest.

So I am planning on upgrading my audio setup so that I use this as my dac/amp until I can afford a schitt stack or a nicer setup. Seeing how it has the option for USB-C I am planning on getting said USB-C cable. My question is what's the fastest (data transferwise) USB-C to 3.1 cable? Or would a native USB-C to USB-C cable be better and I use an adapter to be able to connect? If you have better Dac/amp combos that are available in Canada please leave them in the replies just be weary of my C$150 budget.

I've always liked Fiio stuff, they're reasonably priced and give decent results, something like their E10k, K3 or q1ii would be somewhere to start.

They're a good brand for beginners and will give you better sound than any motherboard or internal soundcard.

Beware though, the audiophile world is a very deep rabbit hole that makes being a PC enthusiast look like pocket change.

If you're happy with your computer's headphone jack, go for it! If you are wanting to get the best sound you can out of those headphones, you might try something like the FiiO K3 ( https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Headphone-Amplifier-Computer-Balanced/dp/B07KR3RF4H ) or the Monoprice Headphone Amp (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=11567)

u/AJCxZ0 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Fair enough. At $179, the HE400i is a great deal. At $319 (or $259 refurbished) the HD650 is less competitive. Of course there are deals to be had in r/AVexchange as buyer and seller for those interested in auditioning.

I don't have an opinion on the venerable E10K or the shiny new K3 having tried neither, but FiiO makes comparison easy. As a long-time happy FiiO customer, the only thing which would give me pause before buying the $110 K3 is the $100 Q1 Mark II.

u/vincentquy · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Have a look at this Fiio K3 Dac/amp:

https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Headphone-Amplifier-Computer-Balanced/dp/B07KR3RF4H/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1550045060&sr=8-1&keywords=fiio+k3

I believe it can drive DT 770. It also has a bass boost switch that give a nice increase in bass that might suit your need.

Please note that you still need to plug this into your pc/ laptop. If you want a battery-powered dac/amp try Fiio Q1 mark 2.

u/traspie_fitz · 1 pointr/ZReviews

DT 990 pro These may be a better option for gaming, but they're open and have less bass. I don't know that amp/dac, but I can recommend this one K3

I was looking at the FiiO K3, as well as this list, is there anything that does a noticeably better job than the Archel for the same price ($99) +/- about 30 bucks? EDIT: That K3 has a bass boost switch, too, hmm.. especially when I eventually get some DT990s that might come in handy.

u/XxScytherxX · 1 pointr/hiphopheads

Just splurged and purchased myself a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770s and a FiiO K3. What are some albums that are mastered extremely well/have great production to break these things in on and test them?

Edit: Current List

u/popsicle_of_meat · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

I assume you mean USB for your phone, right? That's what makes sense. I've not seen many DAC/Amps with an analog Aux line in...

The FiiO K3 is close, but doesn't have an analog out.

The Schiit Fulla has line or variable analog out (in addition to headphone) but no optical.

The AudioEngine D1 and SMSL M7 look like they have all of it, but are above your budget a bit.

But please check the features and confirm for yourself.

u/MoogleMan3 · 0 pointsr/buildapc

Generally you only need to upgrade if it sounds bad, but a better set of headphones will make the biggest difference, then a headphone amp, then a dac.

What headphones are you using? And is your budget set at $50?

$76 will get you the fiio e10k, which is a good first-time dac/amp.

$110 gets you the fiio k3, which is the successor to the e10k and brings a ton of improvements.

The FX-Audio DAC X6 is a good budget option, especially if you just want to test the waters.

Lots of other options too; audio can become a slippery slope lol
