Normally, I would recommend you buy a tuxedo. I think it's a worthwhile investment. However, given your budget situations, I'm going to recommend you rent it... but not from your local store. You have two weeks, so here we go:

Rent from The Black Tux. It's been mentioned on GQ and was put together with input from Peter of The Black Tie Guide. Slim fitting tuxedos, not the baggy stuff from Men's Wearhouse.

Entirely depends on their availability, but I would recommend the following:

Modern Peak Lapel Jacket - https://theblacktux.com/collection/tuxedos/modern-slim-peak-lapel - $110

Since you haven't worn tuxedos before, start here. Sartorially correct (one button, peak lapel, etc). Skinny lapels, but whatever.

Tuxedo Shirt - https://theblacktux.com/collection/shirts/white-dress-shirt - $15

There are differences between your standard white dress shirt and a tuxedo shirt. Trust me and get this one (laydown collar, not wing collar)

Bowtie: Skip the bowtie on the website. Pre-tied looks lame. Buy a self-tie one from Amazon. Here's one from The Tie Bar for $18 or a cheap one for $6

Tying is easy. Just use Youtube to learn. It's like tying shoelaces.

Cufflinks and Studs (these go in your shirt) for $10 total.

Accessories:

Suspenders to hold up your pants. $10. Or you can buy a pair from Men's Wearhouse for $35
, along with this bowtie since they're having a BOGO

Cummerbund to buy for $15. Creates an unbroken line. Please wear this.

White Pocket Square for $10 to buy from Amazon. Just puff it up. Not 100% necessary, but nice.

If you have a nice pair of black dress shoes (read: Oxfords with laces, not loafers, and nothing with a square toe), you can polish those up nicely (get them professionally done and ask for it extra shiny) or you can rent these patent leather shoes or non-patent, black leather shoes for $20 if necessary.

Total Price: $220. Can be completely scaled down if you have some of the accessories (black dress shoes, pocket square, suspenders, etc), which could bring it down to $180.

Phew, that was exhausting.

Good luck and crush it.
