Fireball by John Christopher.
Found it totally by accident in my local library, checked it out because it had the badass name Fireball, and was pleasantly surprised. It's about two cousins who are sucked through a multiverse wormhole (that looks like a fireball) and are transported to a different reality where the Roman empire never fell or really progressed.
I found out a few years ago that it's part one of a trilogy. I've been poking around for the other two novels ever since (don't really care to spend money on them).
