Reddit liked my last battlestation, so I decided to post my new, more portable solution.
My new battlestation was made under slightly more constraints. Everything I own fits into a single suitcase, as I moved to a New York City for work. When I got here, I found that my two laptops made a very unergonomic and uncomfortable workstation. TO remedy that problem, I sourced a few parts of Amazon.
I bought a stand for my tablet, two laptop stands meant for DJs, a wireless mouse and keyboard and a kneeling chair. Everything breaks down and fits into my suitcases except for the chair, which I would probably leave behind if I am forced to move again.
The tablet is used as a TV. I use it to watch documentaries, shows streamed from youtube, hulu, netflix or thepiratebay. The internal speakers on the tablet are a bit quiet, so I have them streaming to a Logitech UE Boom Mini. I've owned the two laptops since starting university - a Lenovo x200, and a x201 I bought a few years later to replace the x200 when it stopped detecting a battery. They're both pretty old now, but the x201 still manages to play league of legends (barely). The x200 (right) is hooked up to a set of Steelseries Siberia v3 headphones that I use for skype, or music / shows when my roommates are watching something else on the big TV, or are having loud sex. A small and surprisingly weak fan is constantly plugged in and does do a bit to keep me cool. I'll have to revisit the cooling solution when summer hits again.
I've considered upgrading the laptops, but then I figured I shouldn't be spending a lot of time inside gaming anyways. Instead, I bought a new snowboard for the upcoming season.
Just a generic knee chair. It is supposed to be good for your posture but I tend to not sit in it correctly http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000TMK0O0?pc_redir=1395900009&robot_redir=1
I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TMK0O0/
And later got this cushion for it, bc the padding just isn't enough: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EBDV9BU/
Good combo.
If you're a fan of good posture, one of these works great, but if you get one invest in some additional padding or you'll eventually hate having sore shins all day.
They are cheaper than I remember, actually! I think they are both equally good. I also tried this one, which I didn't like because the padding was too thick--it just didn't quite work with my body type--but it might be good for someone larger.
I'd definitely recommend trying one, especially at these prices--using one really made a difference for me. It takes a few days to get used to it--your knees might hurt in the beginning, but that stops after a short time, especially if you take breaks, and also your back muscles may need to learn how to support your body, but that's a good thing. Overall I think the chair essentially forces you to have good posture, and that's huge for most types of back pain
I have a kneeling chair which I don't always use because it does make my legs sore quickly but I feel like I play better in it than a normal chair
I'll wear a lightweight scarf, loosely hanging down the front, which kind of obscures the view. Seriously, whenever I've noticed someone staring it's always a woman with a judgey look on her face!
See if you can find a chair that looks like this to try. If it seems comfortable and your boss won't buy it, ask if you can get one to bring in.
I have a kneeling chair that I love. Mine is from the 80's, but it's something like this and it is surprisingly comfortable.
Not sure if these will help, but here's an article of a few stretches you can try.
Anecdotally, here are things I do to make my lower back feel good:
