Yes, Check out the Flying Tigers (book recommendation if you're really interested in it). They were a group of American volunteers who flew planes for China during the Sino-Japanese War in 1941-42. They made a movie about the volunteer group with John Wayne way back when.

There was also a similar fighter group that flew planes for the RAF prior to the US's entrance into WW2: Eagle Squadrons

There were even some US citizens who volunteered for the Waffen S.S. - though there were't any organized volunteer units composed solely of Americans. The Nazi's did however have a fairly large number of British volunteers.
