This configuration allows me to use whatever the hell grip case I want and still gain ALL the benefits of using the dock (while actually hiding the dock under the desk). Take a look.

On the original Nintendo dock, it helps greatly to weight down that little spring-loaded plate around the USB-C port to prevent the extension cable from disconnecting. There's an extender that has a built in block to achieve that task but with any standard USB extender, anything that fits and is heavy enough will work fine. I mainly use the Best Buy dock due to the size and restricted entry angle of the original one.

It is not dockable. The case adds about a third to the thickness however it does fit in the case I have and I believe it will fit most other cases. Having said that it takes up enough space that you cannot fit as much in the case, for mine I can get a cord in the pouch but only a small AC adapter. I am personally using this adapter in order to "dock" the unit and treating my joycons as non-removable as it is a bit of a bother to take the case off.

Which is basically an extension cable for 5+ months with no issues. Also, I've been using it post update with no problems whatsoever. However, YMMV.

Not a dock but I use this with my existing dock and gripcase.

It's a bit of a pain to get into the dock but I've been using it for a few months not and its been great!

true, tbh I stopped using my dock traditionally once I noticed it was leaving scuffs on the console from sliding in/out (mine is on a shelf, so I have to go in & out at an angle) so this solved that problem. I have a case and screen protector on it as well.

It’s possible for any 3rd party dock to brick your Switch, so using any unofficial dock is not advised. Something you could use to keep the case on your Switch and still use the official dock is an extender like this.

Look into buying one of the Dock Extender cables. I use a Satisfye Grip myself, and after buying the dock extender I've never needed to take the grip off for docked gaming.

Strips and chargers are minimal. But TV's create an RF field, plus you have that big metal back on them. So issues for Wifi and bluetooth. Even cordless phone base units can cause wifi interference.

I have my Switch dock tucked away, and I just have a decent USB-C extension cable running from it and I have a Lamicall multi-angle stand for when I want to run the Switch docked. It is a PITA to put a USB-C extension cable in though, so you could look into something like this:

Replacement USB-C to HDMI docks are not advised. All of the units on the market right now have fried at least one switch even while using the official AC adapter.

Mine does but getting it to work is another story.

Just get a USBC hdmi extension from amazon. It’s a block connector that you put in the dock, with a long USBC cable running out of it. Mines been great.

I made a Gamecube dock like this one.

I can't play in handheld mode without my Skull co gripcase and it was advertised to fit in docks, but some (like mine) don't.

It will not fit in the dock, but is very easy to remove and attach. I am debating if I should get switch dock extender cable from amazon.

I set my dock up behind the tv with this plugged into it. Then I just set my switch on a little ledge I have under the TV and plug it in with the case on.

For your second point, there's still a way to dock your Switch even if it has a protective case on it. All you have to do is get one of those dock extender cables that allow you to plug your Switch into the dock without actually physically docking it. This way, you can keep your Switch in its protective case and still easily switch between handheld and docked mode.

I'm protective about my electronics, so I always throw cases on them as soon as I get them. This is the accessory I use, and it's been working great so far. Better airflow too

I went with this because a typical USB-C extender cable doesn't push down properly and is prone to pop out. This was designed to keep all 3 levels in place.

Has worked flawlessly for me in the month or so I've been using it.

I wish my Skull & Co Case would dock properly so I didn't need it, but considering I could only ever get the display to pop up once in dozens of tries, I figured this is the safest bet and also keeps the heat down. It always sucks to buy more things, but this also leaves open the possibility of getting different cases maybe?

EDIT: I should add that I have opted to keep my Hori Stand out at all times and just place it on the stand when it's docked. Just seemed more preferable than dropping it on my entertainment center haha.

Most definitely. It instantly makes the console feel more solid in hand while offering the extra grip. Even though you can't dock it I have no complaints. If docking is a need you could always look for an extender cord.

Best advice I can give a new Switch owner, is don't use that dock. Get a usb-c extension cable, run that from your dock which you can hide somewhere, to the Switch. Keep the Switch on one of these slick stands, and in one of these grip cases. It will not get scratched, will stay cooler, and look nicer. Plus you never need to remove the grip case now.

It will definitely protect joy-cons from side drops. Also adds more grip and have a place for a wrist strap. I really like it.

But it will not protect joysticks from face-down drops.

Also, it will not fit the dock so you should consider buying some extender.

This right here is the best case I've ever used. (UK link) They say that you can use it with the dock but I don't suggest relying on the ability to dock the switch. We have 3 of them and right now two of them dock but one of them doesn't. Mine feels really tight if I try to dock it so I got one of these (UK link) which eliminated the case docking issue.

EDIT: Looks like the UK link only has the switch case and not the carry case. You might be able to find one on eBay or something similar.

You can always buy a USB Type C extender: plug it into where the switch would normally connect in the dock, then you can just lay your Switch flat and plug in the USB type C cable.

As far as I can tell, I don’t have anywhere else I can l plug it into at this house. One of these days, I’ll get a power bank so I won’t have to run into this issue. I hardly travel my Switch so I normally won’t encounter this kind of problem anyway.

I love my mumba grip case due to its ruggedness and comfort, though it can be challenging to remove. Luckily I have a second set of joycons and a pro controller so I never have to remove the ones attached to my console. I also use the dock extender cable so I don’t have to remove the case to dock the switch.

I need it because I keep my switch in a Mumba case and I'd rather not remove the case constantly when I want to dock it. I also bought the Hori stand so that my Switch is standing upright and not blocking vents when it will be docked (yet remain undocked).

If these are correct, you're saying that with the Skull and Co. Gripcase you can not dock on the Basstop Dock so you bought the FYOUNG extension? Is that what you're saying or am I off?

Also, if that is what you were implying, does the Basstop dock and the FYOUNG extension fit in the carrying case from Skull and Co. along with everything else?

I have a similar case. You can't dock it with the case on, so I also got a dock extender. Now the dock itself is tucked away behind my TV stand and I use the cord to dock it. It's been working great for months now.

I was wondering if this works and doesn't have any harmful risks. It has good reviews on Amazon but I'm asking here since Amazon reviews can tend to be dodgy.
