Not sure if you need peripherals or not, so that will be a huge factor influencing overall price. Assuming you will reuse your current keyboard, mouse, and monitor, here is a setup for your price range.
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 ($55)
PSU: Corsair 650TX V2 ($85)
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LK ($148)
CPU: Intel i5-3570K ($230)
RAM: 8GB GSkill DDR3 12800 ($53)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB ($103)
GPU: EVGA GTX 560 ($192)
DVD: ASUS 24x SATA DVD-RW ($22)
Total = $888
You can look to upgrade your Motherboard, CPU, or Graphics Card as your budget allows. You can also look to pick up a solid state HDD, which is faster but with less space, to store your operating system and favorite game.
I have this set that I bought for a build I'm doing but I actually needed ddr4. I haven't even opened it. I'll sell it to you for $50. It's just too much hassle to return.
Also, I recommend ordering off of amazon for all your computer needs.
Probably! I haven't actually checked. I did also read Overwatch takes a lot of RAM, and my RAM is not the best.
I am looking to upgrade some pieces on my computer and I am not sure what is compatible with what.
Motherboard.
i5-2500 as the chip ( I am looking to just upgrade the chip ATM if possible)
16GB of this ram.
and a Nvidia 1070.
dammit x2. lol
And I was reading somewhere while looking all this up that the 955 doesn't like 4 sticks as much as it likes 2 sticks.
I did manage to find g.skill ripjaws (pictures look like my gen1's, not the newer look of the ripjawsX) in 2x4g, and the serial numbers look similar.

6?
Well I have 8GB. G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)(DDR3-1600)
I have an i5-3570k and 2x4gb Ripjaws I would do for $80 shipped. I'm sure you could find a cheap Mobo on here to complete the set. CPU was never overclocked and ran with a Hyper 212 EVO
