I have a gamo big cat, rated for 1200 fps with their shitty light pellets, and have shot many groundhogs, rabbits, squirrels and crows. I use heavier "hollow point" style pellets and it will get the job done. Just make sure you are comfortably in range and can aim for the head. Ground hogs tend to be slower so you can often pump 2 to 3 pellets in them if you aren't the most accurate shooter.
