I'd recommend a refurbished Garmin.
I got a refurbished Fenix 2 after finding that a new FR-230 was lacking a bunch of running features my old 920xt had and I saved ~$100. I only got the Fenix because I occasionally go hiking, swim and bike a bit, but if you only really need a running watch, a refurbished high-end running watch might be a better value for the same price as a bare-bones new watch.
And, yeah, wait for the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday sales.
