I bought a cheap refurb Garmin Vivosport for the same reason. If you are coming from a fancier smartwatch/tracker, it'll be annoying for you with it's limited functionality and tiny screen. But for a basic watch/tracker and Strava GPS use, it works just fine. Well worth The $100 I paid for it. If you are looking for a good starter activity/heartrate/sleep tracker for your mom, I would suggest a refurbished vivosport from Amazon starting at $54 for the small/medium size wristband. It's a small, basic, touch interfaced device that's relatively simple to use. Refurb Vivosport Amazon Link
