There is a ghost story associated with this. Supposedly one of the crew is seen to be hitchhiking along 107. Tally Johnson wrote about this in his book Ghosts of the South Carolina Upstate. (And for the record, I'm not a believer, but I like a good ghost story.)
I tried searching Newspapers.com and didn't find anything. Now I'm intrigued, though. I'll check out a couple more of my resources.
