Thing is, it gets even more confusing than that.

GTX 1060 3gb

GTX 1060 5gb (Asian market only)

GTX 1060 FE/6GB

GTX 1060 6GB @ 9gbps (refresh to help maintain pace with the rx580 after it hit)

There's been 4 of the damned things and they're all just marketed as "gtx 1060", despite 3 different cuda counts, the 5gb model having lower mem bandwidth and 3 differernt vram amounts.

I mean, it's not like we've not seen a x60 ti model before (gtx 660ti was the last if I recall though), so it would have made sense to go with their own already-in-use terminology to separate the cards, but no. It looks better for laptop/desktop sellers to be able to simply list "1060" in the specs, it gives the (uninformed) end-user a feeling that they're getting a better product, when in fact they could be getting something cut down.

I could rant about how crappy a practice their pascal naming has been for days with the whole titan and gt 1030 nonsense too. But the reality is, AMD's cards, although may offer competitive performance at a given msrp (vega 56 vs 1070/ti, rx 580 vs 1060, rx 570 vs 1060 3gb etc), the fact is they offer no oc headroom, run far hotter, and pull a lot more power. Stock performance competitive yes, but as an all round product, amd's current lineup falls short. And that sucks, because I'd really like an alternative.

CPU - £180 https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XKWT7GD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Motherboard - £118 https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06WWR533P/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

RAM - £143 https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XZT894R/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

GFX card - £197 https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Nvidia-1060-GDDR5-Black/dp/B01KHWOAR4/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1542721941&sr=1-3&keywords=1060

Case - up to you, ensure that it can take full size boards though (most do)

Monitor - Amazon Warehouse will get you one for about 150
Keyboard and mouse - keyboards are fairly standard, for a mouse try and get one with some extra buttons but don't go mental.

you can go up and down based on what you actually want though, for example if you spend extra on the gfx card that is SLI or Crossfire compatible you can buy the same card later when it drops in price and you are able to slot it in too, so you've boosted your graphics without having to pull everything apart again.

no point in suggesting a PSU right now as it all depends on what power is needed by components

If you have any questions PM me

Would something like this be a significant upgrade to my current 760?

u/Toby12494 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

ahhh okay, someone did recommend the Ryzen 3 2200G instead however that also has on board graphics but is only £90. Depending on what 1060 I get they range they are around £196 here. However the Radeon RX580 does seem cheaper, I'm from the UK. Its £181 here if that's the right one

Thanks for your input.
Would this fit the bill?

I was maybe thinking of adding a SSD and 8gb more ram as they are fairly cheap to do.

Have this card : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01KHWOAR4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got december last year but unused for the last ~ 2 months if interested

Overclockers?

Also look into used cards on Amazon/eBay if you consider building - I reckon the price gouging isn't as bad over here compared to the US due to the relative cost of electricity this side of the Atlantic.

Edit: You can get a 3GB GTX 1060on Amazon for £230 atm which isn't fantastic, but likely alot better value than prebuilts, and maybe upgrade when Volta releases.

Decent price for 1060?

Well, I just got tired of these prices. I wanted to buy a RX570 or RX580 4gb for a decent price, but today I saw a 1060 3gb for 206 eur. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01KHWOAR4/ref=pe_3044161_185740101_TE_item

Bought a GTX 1060 3gb a few years ago, used it for 16 months ish then upgraded. Its sitting in my cupboard in its packaging at the moment. Was gonna use it for form funky ML projects but could part with it if you're looking for a cheap build. Interested?
London - happy to post

also, ignore all the 'super superclocked' and 'FTW' variants as they are just minimal improvements which arent worth the increased price

a good card that'll perform the same as ones price £50+ higher: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Nvidia-1060-GDDR5-PCI-E/dp/B01KHWOAR4/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1496535165&sr=1-3&keywords=gtx+1060

Sollte reichen oder?

u/Isleeprealshit · 1 pointr/buildapc

I live in Finland so the gpu and psu cant ship here. Can i replace psu with this and the gpu with this? Also that way everything would come from amazon.de. Aren't nvidia gpus better for gaming than amd's?

u/Eferas · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

May I ask your opinion about this one, please? It has half the Gb but cost way less, is there any other difference I didn't notice?

https://www.amazon.it/Gigabyte-WINDFORCE-Scheda-grafica-GeForce/dp/B01KHWOAR4/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1525038366&sr=1-1&keywords=GTX+1060

u/Gordondel · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thank you! I'm thinking of going for a 1060 which costs 220€ which is I believe the best quality/price ratio right now. But I saw an RX580 for 280€ which has 8G compared to the 3G the 1060 above has, would that make a big difference? Is the RX580 compatible with my motherboard (Intel DQ67SW)?

u/yelaxify · 1 pointr/buildapc

Something like this then?

u/Hugh2711 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Settled on this! Got it at £169

Very short question from me. Including shipping and stuff the price for the two cards below is EXACTLY the same. Which of the two cards is better?

Card 1

Card 2
