Look for smelting gloves; they're rated to a much higher temp (2000+) and they're made of fiberglass because it's vastly superior to leather. The trick, sadly, is that many use a wool lining, so you may have to pick your poison.

I've welded fairly thick plate with kevlar weave gloves, but I can't say whether or not they're rated for forge work.
