I really suggest looking over all of your options, and fully researching them before purchasing a dash cam. Buyers remorse is common, and finding little flaws might bother you after a while.

Dashcam + Micro SD card + Hardwire kit = Cost - Different vendors have different offerings they include or don't include.

Excellent -> Good -> Fair -> Average -> Below average -> Poor

If you can live with the video quality:

  • Thinkware F50 1-CH ($69.99 USD) - Fair video quality, Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode. - Lacks a Wifi/cell phone app, but format free technology helps and reliability is top notch. ($69.99 USD) - 2nd vendor. ($90-110 USD) - 3rd vendor. - There is a coupon code for this one in the video description.

    The level of expectation for all dash cams should be: Read the plate out loud, and record via audio. By footage is nice to have, but should not be expected. Even Excellent video quality might miss the plate, especially at speed, and at night. Also pen/paper write down the plate #, and call the police with telling them the number.

So what you are looking for is a dashcam that has a dedicated parking mode that will be hardwired to your fuse panel and that will record while the car is parked and not running.

For under $100 let me suggest that you look at the Goluk T3 dashcam which is a small cylinder-shaped dashcam that can be installed high on the windshield close to the car headliner. With the power cable hidden underneath the headliner it will make for a very stealthy installation.
