Not a board game, but a card game I love that I hardly ever see mentioned is Mille Bornes. I'm a fan of the vintage style cards but really have never played with the newer style.
The game is basically a road race. Players have to get started and collect mileage while others can play hazards on the. There are repair cards and protective cards to combat those. It's draw and discard style, so not like a collectible card game (a la Magic as I understand it.) It gets very fast paced and only takes about ten minutes to learn.
Hardly anyone I've met has heard of it, maybe because it's French; I don't know. It got kind of popular in the late seventies or early eighties. Around the same time Uno became a big hit. My family and my neighbor's family used to play it a lot.
I'm also a fan of the Magnetic Poetry game, but that's more of a 'get drunk and write suggestive poetry with the girlfriend' kind of game. Things always seem to get naughty when that game is played.
