If your car stereo has an aux port you can add a Bluetooth adapter to it for under $20.

Anker SoundSync Drive Bluetooth 4.0 Car Receiver, Wireless Phone Call & Music Streaming Car Kit with Built-in Mic, Music Streaming, Echo and Noise Reduction, Multi-Point Access, 3.5mm Aux Cable

My Fiat is like that and no, on that system at least there's no way to force it to play music. I ended up plugging this bluetooth to aux adapter in and my phone now pairs with the radio for phone calls and that adapter to stream music.

u/JFreaks25 · 7 pointsr/Android

I have [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0176G5TRO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) in my 2010 malibu that doesn't have bluetooth for audio and its wonderful

u/MadMennonite · 7 pointsr/iphone

Get this one from Anker. It's Wirecutter's top pick and $20

Edit: I've also been rocking the iClever Himbox HB01 for a while now.

u/flower1988 · 6 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating

I use this in one of my cars, it works well.

IIRC that’s not to connect any phone, but an apple device in iPod mode.

You can get something like this to add a2dp Bluetooth:

Bovee Bluetooth Car Kit for 2006 BMW E90 - Android and iPhone Music Interface Adaptor for in car iPod Integration (WMA3000B USB / AUX connector) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073W3G5KJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_vO6LBbX0793GW

I didn’t have the Bluetooth module for hands free in my car, nor the USB port. So I opted for this:

Anker SoundSync Drive Bluetooth 4.0 Car Receiver, Wireless Phone Call & Music Streaming Car Kit with Built-in Mic, Music Streaming, Echo and Noise Reduction, Multi-Point Access, 3.5mm Aux Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0176G5TRO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oT6LBb9XN1PYX

Shame they stopped making this model, but there are similar ones. I like the separate buttons for track selection.
(Single button burns out a lot faster)

There are other ways (from Grom and others) but they were cost prohibitive. And required coding the cd changer into the system.

I have a 2012 Frontier SV.
I literally just solved this issue a few weeks ago.

I used this.

I stuck it right by the e-brake and ran my wires under the console to the aux/12v outlets. I used a 12v usb adapter for the usb plug.

I can still use the stock nissan hands free system while wirelessly streaming music. It automatically pauses and un-pauses the music.

I can provide a few pics is you like.

I'm in the same boat as you (have aux input but no Bluetooth). Grabbed this off Amazon and works well. Only problem is you need to manually turn it on every time you start the car but its no big deal.

u/Pizzzathehutt · 2 pointsr/scion

Not sure what Anker you saw, but I got one of these a week or two ago and so far its been great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0176G5TRO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only downside is that it can only handle being paired to one device at a time. So if my wife wants to connect I have to unpair it from my phone before she can pair with it.

This is my setup. It let's you power the bluetooth and charge your phone off the same cigarette lighter. Not making excuses for them, just sharing what works for me. One thing to note is that the charging can be pretty slow. With the screen on and navigation and playing a podcast it may not even be able to keep it from draining.

u/ninjawa · 2 pointsr/GooglePixel

I've been using the Anker SoundSync with my Pixel XL with no issues.

u/cd419 · 2 pointsr/iphone

This is what you really need!!

Anker SoundSync Drive Bluetooth 4.0 Car Receiver, Wireless Phone Call & Music Streaming Car Kit with Built-in Mic, Music Streaming, Echo and Noise Reduction, Multi-Point Access, 3.5mm Aux Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0176G5TRO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_7ojkybB7KC0SD

u/Sneeko · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS9

Interesting. I don't even have Bluetooth built-in in my '09 Civic, but use one of these and the audio coming from my S9+ is flawless. I use Pandora, DSub (a SubSonic client), and Power Amp for music and haven't had any issues with any of them.

u/Brutus1979 · 2 pointsr/MINI

If your car has the Aux input installed then you can purchase.

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-SoundSync-Bluetooth-Streaming-Multi-Point/dp/B0176G5TRO/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1480427750&sr=8-16&keywords=bluetooth+car+adapter

it will not work with the button on steering wheel but would give you phone calls and audio streaming to your radio.

u/randybruder · 2 pointsr/ipod

Ok, you don't want the dongle. Why not just get a bluetooth audio receiver, like this? Still a hell of a lot cheaper then buying an iPod.

u/squirrelist · 2 pointsr/iphone

I recommend a Bluetooth adapter like this one. It adds Bluetooth capability to your car for music and calls. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0176G5TRO/

u/sleepyguy007 · 2 pointsr/BMW

to be fair the lightning based iphones werent out when the F30 cars were designed. but yeah.... at the very least make them let you try a lightning Y cable to test if it does teh trick (it is not cheap).

if it isn't a must you could go with a aux to bluetooth adapter like thisL: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0176G5TRO/ref=psdc_1293687011_t2_B009NLTW60

which is i resorted to (i have an android phone, but the android phone support was pretty bad too)

u/JimmyRUDEjam · 2 pointsr/iphone

I use the Anker SoundSync with a 2 port USB power outlet in my vehicle and it works great. Connects up extremely quickly and automatically when I power the car on. I can charge no problem, does phone calls and music, there's no buzzing and it's low profile and hidden out of the way. If I wanted to I could probably route it into the glove box to be even more hidden but that doesn't seem necessary.

u/Dain42 · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Honestly, I know you already have the Pi around and all, but once you spend money on materials (and you would need some to accomplish something like this), you'll be better off buying a moderately priced Bluetooth receiver like this one.

Between accounting for trying to shut down cleanly on a power loss when the car shuts off (so as to not corrupt or damage the SD card), and buying a case and mounting hardware for in the car, it'll almost certainly be cheaper, and it'll definitely be less frustrating. The Pi has a significant boot time, for one, so bluetooth audio wouldn't be available for a minute or so after starting the car, which would either mean waiting in the driveway with the car on waiting for it to boot, or fiddling with connecting your phone while on the road, which isn't safe. And there are plenty of other challenges to get around, too.

I'm absolutely not down on trying things out and going DIY. If you're looking to do this as a fun exercise in order to learn something, then you should still do it, but if you're doing it because you actually want a bluetooth receiver, there's just no way that the Pi is going to be more cost-effective or sanity-friendly. If you're looking to learn about wheels, it sometimes makes sense to do the work to reinvent them, but if you're actually trying to make something practical that happens to have tires, you're probably better off just buying pre-made ones, you know what I mean?

Not the exact one I had but it’s similar. Our 07 Prius was totaled by law enforcement. Our new is a 2014 5. I used the little Bluetooth adapter for 6 years in that car. Best car I’ve ever owned.

u/Recoil42 · 2 pointsr/cars

Can't say I agree with you on A/C, but everything else is spot-on.

The biggest thing with bluetooth is that you can actually add it yourself, with any car that has an aux jack already... for like $20.

Like... bam.

People act like it's a vital feature that you could never not have built-into the car.

Meanwhile, go ahead and try to add a backup camera to a car gracefully. It's doable, but you'll still be doing some surgery every single time.

u/thefunkylemon · 2 pointsr/HelpMeFind

Try the Anker SoundSync Drive. As long as your car's adapter port shuts off when your car does, it will also shut off too

u/Pharmie2013 · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

I've been using this for awhile now. Haven't had any issues, boots up when the car is turned on

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-SoundSync-Bluetooth-Streaming-Multi-Point/dp/B0176G5TRO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1526754069&sr=8-3&keywords=anker+bluetooth+car+adapter&dpID=4104cVrc%252BoL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Edit: Was reading questions and a lot of people say it didn't automatically come on...I haven't had that issue. Mine comes on and connects pretty quickly.

u/biznatch11 · 1 pointr/Android

This is exactly what I need, thanks. I also have bluetooth headset which I prefer to use for calls. Do you know if it's possible to have my phone (Galaxy S7) connected to both bluetooth devices at the same time, and have music on this SoundSync and calls on the headset?

Amazon.ca link for any fellow Canadians.

I bought this one a few years ago - https://www.amazon.in/Anker-Bluetooth-Streaming-Reduction-Multi-Point/dp/B0176G5TRO/

Quite good. Though it was much cheaper on amazon.com at that time, and I bought it in the US.

u/Turdsworth · 1 pointr/cars

if it has an aux port you can get a bluetooth adapter kit for $30 install is easy. It works off a cigarette to USB adapter that you can charge your phone with. You have a pause button, track forward and back. IT will have a speakerphone, and if it's any good it will be able to do effective noise canceling. this is the one I like https://www.amazon.com/Anker-SoundSync-Bluetooth-Streaming-Multi-Point/dp/B0176G5TRO

u/chippies · 1 pointr/regina

If it's a 2013, there's an outside chance that the factory radio has bluetooth. I'd suggest you look in to this, as this will be the most ideal scenario, you can just pair your phone and have a wireless connection.

If you don't have bluetooth on that radio, do you have an AUX input? It'll look like a headphone jack. If you've got an AUX input, you could buy something like this off of Amazon and your phone will pair to that device, which pipes the audio to your stereo. If you're creative, you could install this in your car somewhat permanently and have it look clean.

u/bagsofsand · 1 pointr/iphone

Here is a good breakdown and comparison of car bluetooth kits from Wirecutter. They do a good job of weighing pros and cons, etc. for all kinds of stuff. They recommend the Anker SoundSync Drive and have some other pics as well depending on planned use.

u/PeaceBull · 1 pointr/apple

Just pick this guy up from Anker for $20. It'll take over "carphone" and music streaming responsibilities.

Everything I've read about it says that it does a great job handling phone calls.

Anker SoundSync

u/iambobbydennis · 1 pointr/pixel_phones

I have the same problem in my car. My Bluetooth only answers phone calls. I got the anker soundsync Bluetooth. Plugs up to the aux and is powered through USB plug. I even use my old aux cable and got a 3.5 coupler female-female to have the length to throw the Bluetooth into my glove compartment.

The no headphone jack sucks at first but once you change your style, it works out.

Unless you're driving a luxury vehicle I doubt your speakers are of the quality where an aux cable would provide better quality than a reasonable quality bluetooth adapter. For a little more than I mentioned you can get this which supports bluetooth 4
