I have curly hair, but I don't put a ton of time into it, so take this with a grain of salt. The best thing I've found is that no matter how much I like one shampoo/conditioner, I always switch when I run out. Somehow it works like crop rotation, and my hair is always most manageable when I'm using new products. I've never found any one product great enough to be worth sticking to in light of this fact.

As for leave-in products, I usually put in Curls Up gel or Herbal Essences Curl Scrunching Gel while my hair is wet and then blow dry or let it dry naturally. These lightweight gels are enough to keep most of the frizz at bay and convince my hair to curl into pretty ringlets instead of random fuzz, all without making my hair crunchy or wet-looking.

I'm currently using shea moisture shampoo & curl enhacing smoothie. I use Giovanni leave in conditioner (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ET78BU/) and Herbal Essences gel (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013KSSIC/). Most ends up getting scrunched out I think.

My hair's definitely a lot better than it was (finally learning not to brush my hair when dry was probably the biggest improvement I noticed so far), but I'm still trying new things and working up to the no-shampoo thing.
