Bill Trammel designed this wicked cool board here's a link on amazon and did it as a Kickstarter. All these people who donated a certain amount were promised some boards with bonus features--namely, a Seafarer's extension insert.

He marked his Kickstarter as "complete" when he never delivered his promised package to everyone who donated $85 or more.

Because he had a horde of angry people wanting their promised goods, he created a SECOND kickstarter campaign and said he'd use the funding from the new kickstarter to "pay back" the people from the FIRST kickstarter. This, obviously, is an example of a really bad business model and basically, everyone who got cheated out of their product on the first go around flamed him....and so he had a hard time getting funding for the second kickstarter.

Which is sad, because I have been waiting for the products from the second kickstarter to be available commercially. I have even socked away the like, $300 for the whole thing, because I'm sure, like /u/SneakyLinux said, it's gonna be super expensive when it finally hits open market.

Here are some pictures I was able to find from the google:

Also, I'm sure Catan is disputing it because he labeled everything on it CATAN with the little sunset design, and that's got to be owned by Catan, or whoever owns Catan. I just can't believe after all these years and all the secondary design products available on Etsy or Kickstarter that Catan hasn't accepted their playing board game design is flawed. As excellent as it is to have a board game that changes with each use, the flimsy cardboard pieces are horrible. I want a decent interlocking board design, or the blue seafarers tray, and that surely isn't asking too much now, is it?? They should create a "Special Anniversary Edition" (like Scrabble did with the lazy-susan tray with the plastic grid to hold the letter tiles) and charge an arm and leg. Devoted fans will pay for some next-level improvement design, it would be an easy profit for Catan.

Edit: it just dawned on me that I can sew, and I'm sure creating a canvas bag or leather bag is something I could do, although it might take a few tries to get perfect. This might be an improvement on my rubbermaid-with-tupperware-inserts set up I have currently going on.....hm....Also, I have used Spielematerial extensively, and my husband owned a complete board game set, as did I, before we married, so even if I bought this beautiful bag from Bill Trammel, I couldn't fit all my Catan items into it. (I still want it, though).
