I am also bedridden most days. I feel for your dad! Here are couple suggestions to make his days in bed a little brighter:
A year-long subscription to Audible or audiobooks.com. I really like audiobooks when I'm bedridden because they make great background noise and help pass the time.
A Ken Burns box set or a set of something he likes. Even better if you watch it with him.
A tray like this. It just makes everything easier.
I really like the idea of a lumbar pillow that has been mentioned before.
A Roku or Apple TV for easier binge watching.
Getting outside is really huge. If he doesn't already have one and it's in your budget, some kind of patio chair or chaise that would allow him to recline comfortably or lie down while getting fresh air.

Pretty much any kind of craft or hobby that can be done from bed. Distraction is key. It depends on your dad, of course, but a few others come to mind: coloring books, crosswords, music, computer or card games, books.
