"Groundhog Day was one of the greatest scripts ever written. It didn't even get nominated for an Academy Award. And a movie called Dave won, which was a rehash of a movie about a Spanish dictator who died and had an actor replace him. How can that be the best original screenplay?"

Harold Ramis did a great job on writing Groundhog Day and I am happy that Bill said this.

Edit: Danny Rubin should have the credits for writing the screenplay and the story for "Groundhog Day". He even wrote a book How To Write Groundhog Day where he describes precisely Ramis' contributions. Mainly that the story starts before the loop begins, instead of mid loop, and removing many of the more sadistic and masochistic tendencies of Phil. There were lots of crazy murders and suicide attempts before Ramis polished it. /Thanks to Electrorocket for clearing this up.

Edit 2: So, I was just thinking through if a person could live long enough, how would they change and that seemed like a cumbersome experiment because of having to deal with changing history. /A really cool interview where Danny talks about coming up with the idea to "Groundhog Day"

Edit 3: If you want to know more about Harold Ramis writing, here is some cool trivia about him and his writing on the movie Ghostbusters + some cool pictures of the Egon Spengler uniform.

Dude! Ramis DID NOT WRITE Groundhog Day! Sure, Ramis added a few tweaks and a polish, but give credit where credit is due. Danny Rubin wrote it, and even wrote an excellent book on writing it: http://www.amazon.com/How-To-Write-Groundhog-Day-ebook/dp/B0072PEV6U
