The people saying the processor is old are wrong. It's a Pentium Gold which is a 2018 processor. But it is one of the slower processors that Intel makes. For youtube and web browsing it will work fine. My only issue with the laptop is that in 2019, no one should be buying a laptop with a spinning disk.

The reason the 500gb laptop is cheaper than the smaller 128GB hdd laptop is for several of reasons. The first one being the 500gb drive is what's called a mechanical hard drive or "spinning disk" (HDD) where as the 128gb is most likely whats called a solid state drive (SSD). 500GB hdd tech has been around for 20 years at this point, they are slow and vulnerable to drops. SSDs have come down in price lately and are multitudes faster than an HDD and are less likely to fail from drops and moving your laptop. A 128gb ssd should be about the same price or less than a 500gb hdd when purchased on their own but Best Buy is probably raising the price a ton due to it being an SSD.

4GB of RAM is also pretty low for web browsing in 2019 as well.

Alright so even though you said less than 2K$ what you are asking for can be achieved with less than 500$

So if you are doing just a bunch of research and typing then you really don't need anything more than a core i3 since what you're doing isn't very "multitasking intensive." Although if you do plan on having a lot of programs open at once then a core i5 would be even better although for just typing and research I wouldn't go any further than that.

Now you basically only need around 8 gigs of ram, a lot of cheaper laptops have 4 but 4 really isn't enough for today's standards especially if you are doing a lot of web browsing.

And if you are just storing a bunch of research and word documents then you aren't really gonna need a big hard drive since word docs and presentations don't take up that much storage in the first place.

For an around an extra 50$ you have this HP which has the same nearly the same specs as the lenovo although its dual core (not as good at multitasking as the quad core) and you have an SSD instead. An SSD will give you a little bit of a boost in performance due to the faster loading times.

The last one here is the Dell Inspiron which I have heard really good things about these laptops in the past. For only around 30$ more you are getting a decent jump in performance due to it being a core i5 and you are also getting a 256GB SSD which should be plenty of storage.

Now they all have 8GB and if you plan on having a bunch up web tabs open then I suggest getting more ram and upgrading them (usually most laptops you can upgrade). The screens on these won't be the best which is a little bit of a downside but I'm guessing that shouldn't matter much to you since you said you won't be using them for anything media intensive.

Each one should be just fine for what you are doing just choose based on the price.

If you can get this model in your country I would recommend the HP 14-cf0006dx. I just recently picked up this laptop for $318 USD from the store Best Buy on sale. I bought it because I wanted something cheap and something more so portable then my HP Omen 15 gaming laptop or my desktop. So the specs aren't anything to write home about. But it is quite upgradeable as I have learned.

Like I said nothing terribly impressive, but it is cheap and with a couple quick upgrades it runs like a champ and can handle typical productivity tasks as well as some light gaming.


As for those upgrades, you can check out my post here on Reddit for more info about that. As I was about to follow up to my post with what I have done to this that really improved its responsiveness and performance.

Here are some links on Amazon. There are a bunch of different HP laptops that use the same motherboard. Sometimes with up to a 8th Gen Core i7 and Radeon 530 4Gb GPU. But I don't know what models those are off hand or what markets they exist in.

This could work. It has decent space (128GB should be enough for your needs), A decent RAM (8GB), and an ok CPU for what you need (it's only dual-core and 2.4 GHz but that should be enough).

It is also within your budget.

What is it you use the laptop for? Knowing what kind of stress is put on it might be helpful. As for the battery, make sure that the converter/power brick is built for this particular computer, having inefficient power could cause some problems. If you're wondering about replacement parts, I would suggest (depending on what you use the laptop for and you budget), getting a new laptop would probably be best.
