The 698 is part of the Core series from Humminbird that is being phased out. Cabelas was clearancing off the 688 Sonar/DI units recently at less than $300. You may still be able to find this deal at local stores.
The Helix line is the series that will be replacing the Core series. The Helix series feature color monitors. The Helix 5 is available in quite a few configurations (Sonar, Sonar/DI, Sonar GPS, etc.), and they aren't that expensive.
