Which would be better, the ones you posted or 2x 8GB 2133MHz CL14?

EDIT: I know it has a faster clock speed, but it also has a greater latency, and I have read before 2 sticks are preferred to 4. How will this be reflected in a gaming pc? Would I be able to tell any difference?

u/Vytautas__ · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Hilariously, the link that you gave me is in pounds, not dollars. So it's not 950$, but 1328$. (it's more expensive)

  • 17.3" screen, big as fuck - how are you going to carry that around?

Seriously, I tried to draw it next to my sketch for the MBP 13" size. It barely fits on the paper. I really can't think of any reason why I would want to buy such a big laptop...

  • weights almost twice
  • MBP has 2560 x 1600 res, what you linked me has 1920 x 1080. It makes a big difference on the price
  • HDD and not SSD, which also increases the MBP price

For example, if you want to get the 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD model it's going to cost you £1,133.16 (1601$)

  • no customer support where I live, I would have to ship it if I wanted a replacement
  • bad battery life
  • bad build quality

You linked a more expensive machine, that weighs almost double (so it makes a really crappy carryaround laptop) with far worse build quality and no customer support in my country. What makes it so good? The processor and graphics card? What if I told you I don't play games?

It's completely fine if you prefer to use different laptops, or use them for games, but I and a lot of other people don't. If I wanted a machine for gaming, I would build a desktop. For me, laptops are meant to be lightweight and easy to carry around, have a long battery so I wouldn't have to charge it every time I use it and small enough to fit in my backpack. The MBP 13" does all of that.

To be fair, I am not even sure I would ever suggest the device that you linked to anyone. It's expensive, really big and weighs a lot. Not to mention there's far, far better options out there if you really want a laptop for gaming.

    -----------------

By the way, I was wondering how much the processor, RAM and the graphics card cost alone.

  • £243.50 - Intel Core i7 Quad-Core i7-6700 3.4GHz Processor CPU
  • £199.99 - Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 Strix GDDR5
  • £57.28 - HyperX Fury 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 2133 MHz DDR4

    Total ~500£ (706$). 44% of the price.

Now, onto the MacBook Pro 13"

  • ~£140 processor
  • ~ £65 ram
  • integrated graphics

    Total £205 (290$). 26% of the price.

Note that I didn't include the screen or the battery, which will also cost quite a bit. Look at how much the actually hardware costs and think about how much of your money goes towards reliability and build quality.

Sure if you're talking about desktops, that might not be much of an issue (because you build and house them yourself). But for laptops - it's a really big deal. You don't really want a shitty build laptop that will fall apart, because you aren't going to replace the casing.
u/HowDoIMathThough · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Yes, that ram (corsair dominator) is indeed very very good.

However, corsair dominator ram is really really expensive and will make almost no difference compared to cheap DDR4 like this.

https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-2133MHz-Non-ECC-HX421C14FBK2-16/dp/B00TY6A1LY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498778340&sr=8-3&ppw=fresh&keywords=DDR%24+16GB+ram

16 gb of ram is between $100 and $140 on amazon right now. I have no idea why you're arguing about this when it's an easily googleable issue. RAM prices have increased over the last few months by a shitton, and now it's a pretty pricey upgrade. When I bought my 16gb of RAM it was $75, now it's almost twice that.

u/ahhhhhh_101 · 2 pointsr/Battlegrounds

Ram is the issue here. 8 GB of ram is fine most of the time, but for a new game like Battlegrounds that requires a lot of physical memory to function properly, you'll need AT LEAST 8 gb of DDR4 RAM for the game to load all the textures properly.

DDR3 RAM will work with older games. However, DDR3 is quickly becoming outdated due to increasing map sizes and more complex graphical coding.

Hope this helped. I would recommend this 16 GB RAM pack:

I currently have this ram (Amazon, Newegg) that I bought a few years ago. Its not being made anymore but I want to upgrade to 32gb. Would I be able to mix the set I currently have with this set? I don't really have the money to buy a full new 32gb set and my 16gb set is still perfectly fine. I just need more ram

u/IndifferentPotatoAim · 2 pointsr/buildapc

It has USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports. The same RAM just 16GB would be THIS. About the splitter, I don't really know for certain, but logically it should eat 1-2ms response time, which is not much at all.

u/Cheedozz · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'm purchasing parts to build my first PC within these next 2 weeks. I would appreciate if someone you could help me find parts. I already have the GPU, CPU, and RAM picked out.

For the simple questions I wanted to ask:

How do I know when my system has enough cooling? I already know that I want to go with air cooling instead of liquid cooling.

What are some good sites to look for a motherboard and case to buy? I'm on an approximate $1200 budget not including accessories such as a mouse and keyboard. I appreciate any help, if you could contact me on Discord to help me that would be great. Cheedozz#0154

Can't tell if there is a share button so I hope this screenshot is sufficient.

It comes to ~3715 PLN + the case + RAM for this build :( I guess you're paying extra for importing etc. I can cut down a bit more if you'd like?

Didn't pick a case as this is up to you how you'd like it to look. The site doesn't seem to have DDR4 RAM on it, so you'll have to find that somewhere else as you can't use DDR3 (it damages the newer generation CPUs). You could possibly get it off Amazon? https://www.amazon.de/HX421C14FBK2-16-Arbeitsspeicher-2133MHz-compatible/dp/B00TY6A1LY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468245956&sr=8-1&keywords=ddr4-2133+16gb

Changed the PSU to a Seasonic one (they actually make EVGAs G2 series PSUs). Changed the MOBO to a Gigabyte one that is equally as good. Cheaper monitor with built in speakers (not any lower quality).

u/r1nzl3r82 · 1 pointr/buildapcsalesuk

This 2x8GB deal is good, it will leave you with spare slots for upgrading in the future. This is good because you don't need to get rid of the RAM you already have. Are you planning on overclocking? Got details to share about the rest of your setup?

u/47Argentum · 1 pointr/buildapc

Oh whoops, I added the LPX at PCPartPicker, but I actually got these instead.

u/TheTaiwanMan · 1 pointr/buildapc

hi thanks for the reply.

the RAM i got was actually DDR4, which I think is 1.2V? I'm not sure, i got it from amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TY6A1LY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ram is locked in tight, CPU_FAN plugged in, doubled check front panel pin placements, took out the PSU and verified cables tightly plugged in, still nothing.

u/2d15d7c4 · 1 pointr/buildapc

There are good deals for HyperX RAM on Amazon UK.

32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 2400 £137

16GB (2x8GB) 2133MHz £62 and you could also just double up on this kit for 32GB total costing £124. That's pretty good!

u/iTzKPanda · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hm. So what's the difference between this ram set and this one? .

u/ItchyProphet · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hey mate!

You told me to grab 2133 ram over what I had selected. I bought Two https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00TY6A1LY/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

However I'm having difficulties getting them to snap in. Did I mess up?

Thanks!

u/ArosHD · 1 pointr/buildapc

Replaced the RAM with this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00TY6A1LY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

I'm not sure about which PSU to use instead and haven't looked at anything other than the CX500 because it's a good price. I want at least 500W for at most £50. What's the benefit of a semi-modular PSU in this case?

I used to want a mATX build but I was worried about parts not fitting and it being a limiting factor for future upgrades.

u/lasko123 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hey could you tell me if this RAM is okay for the same build? Decided to just get this rather than using the same ECC RAM I had:

So I'm trying to purchase RAM for my build but I'm having a slight problem. I'm trying to buy this RAM from Newegg or Amazon but I have noticed the parts # are different. So my question is: what's the difference between this and this? Why are the part # different?

u/FlatTextOnAScreen · 1 pointr/gamingpc

If you're not looking into over-clocking you can save like $60 by going down to a i5-7500, H270 mobo instead of a Z270, EVGA 500w is almost $10 cheaper than the Corsair you picked, and lower DDR4 memory for another $10 or so.

Here are the cheaper parts from Amazon:

HyperX RAM 16GB

MSI Pro H270

EVGA 500 B1

i5 7500.

Other than that, solid build.

u/TheHippiez · 1 pointr/buildapc

You can buy 2x 8g RAM for that money. ( Don't know where your from, but if I can buy it in the Netherlands you can buy it everywhere lol. )

EDIT: ok India of course ( or close ), anyway.

EDIT 2: http://www.amazon.in/Kingston-2133MHz-Non-ECC-HX421C14FBK2-16/dp/B00TY6A1LY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475009198&sr=8-1&keywords=hyperx+fury+16gb

EDIT 3: On the motherboard thing, do you plan to overclock or SLI? As far as I know, go for decent but cheap. Motherboards come with lots of features, most of them you will never ever use.

u/LooperGamer · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I suppose I dont need a disc reader honestly I stream movies but I thought pc games would be cheaper on a disc but then I remembered theres steam? are games cheaper on amazon or on steam>? as for the ram I switched out for this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-16-Memory-Skylake-Compatible/dp/B00TY6A1LY/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1475179333&sr=1-1&keywords=DDR4+ram%5C

And for the Mother board I chose this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B019NFPPZW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Please let me know if theese are good picks.

u/Pistacie · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thanks!

I will swap the ram with these and i will get the case you recommended.

I would like to be vive proof. Also I want to mode skyrim pretty hard. I was thinking about i5-4690 (K or non K, don't know), would you still recommend i5-6500? I guess it's because of DDR4. I will probably pick the motherboard from those you listed that will be cheapest for me.

And I forgot to ask about if I should get sound card,I am using shure srh440 and might upgrade one day to better ones, but I am not sure if sound card will boost me anything.

Thank you again!

EDIT: Edited part list

u/nokmanoks2 · 1 pointr/buildapc

HyperX is fine, though cheapest 16Gb that I found was $70 though . You could run in 8Gb fine, and just save some more money for another stick.

u/edurodenas · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you want to stick with your current MOBO your best choice would be the i7-2700k. However, I would recommend you to upgrade to Skylake, which means new MOBO, CPU and new RAM.

u/austinw24 · 1 pointr/buildapc

> The motherboard didn't have as many bad reviews on newegg. (What's up with that? Most mb's seem to have so many problems). But, I'm not crazy about the white/black theme.

If you would prefer a quality Z170 board with a black only theme, you might want to look at this board. LINK It is incredibly easy to OC with, great color theme (or lack of) and great built in features.

Remember on RAM for gaming (I did not read your first post so I have no idea of why you are building this PC but I am assuming it is for gaming), speed is less important than CAS. You chose high speed but also high CAS ram. You would be better off in looking for a 13 or 14 CAS rating RAM. Example to stick with black theme

Hitachi drives are not known for long term reliability. You may want to get a FireCuda (if gaming), other barry drive or a WD Black or 7200RPM NAS or Datacenter Drive.

Since you are spending $150 on an SSD, you may want to grab an M.2 drive for ease of cable management and additional speed. Smaller capacity or More expensive or Green PCB

PSU - I would get the 750w because it is on sale for a few dollars more than the 650w right now. It will allow a better efficiency because of where your system will land on the curve. Either is fine though.

I have no experience on monitors so I will not comment.

Other than that, solid build.

EDIT: Added product links

u/Aozi · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

So that SSD seems a bit excessive....

You're generally better off getting a smaller SSD, like 250GB along with a larger mass storage.

Swap that 1TB SSD for this 275GB SSD and this 2TB HDD. You're gonna save almost 100$ on this and have more storage.

You can also get some cheaper RAM like This Kingston HyperX FURY, yeah it's slower at 2133 mhz, butit really doesn't matter.

Now you have about 110$ left over which you can put into a better GPU. You can get a GTX 1070 for 399$ so you'd need to get an extra 20$ on top of your current funds. The 1070 offers substantially better performance than the 1060, you're easily looking at gaining 20-30 frames on average in most games.
