You should be able to build one for decently cheap with a 1060 compact GPU and a i3. That shouldn't have a problem running 144hz on stretched res with minimum settings.

Also check your local craigslist for used hardware like GPUs. Some guy is selling a used 1070ti for the price of a new 1050ti on my local CL.

Here is a video of a guy using a 7400 and a 1050ti playing with common comp settings. He averages at least 144, and no matter how you slice it that is so much better than a console.

You should be able to save some money and go with a comparable AMD cpu, 16gb of cheap ddr4 Ram, a micro itx mobo, and a $20 case. If you haven’t built a pc before then pc part picker is your best friend.

I’ll update with a complete build for less than 600 in an hour or so.

Edit: Here is a pcpartpicker list for a build that actually has better specs than the pc in the youtube vid up there. The 8100 i3 is 11% faster than the 7400 i5 in that video. I would get that PC and worry about peripherials later, assuming you already have a computer monitor of some kind at home along with a shitty mouse and keyboard. And if you already game with headphones on your console, there are adapters you can use to plug your console headset into your pc.

Everything after this point is non critical, but preffered. You will have a much better time playing fortnite on the above setup on pc than with a console. The stuff below is just things to buy when your wallet recovers from buying the PC in order of importance.

The next purchase you should make after that is This AOC 144hz gsync compatible monitor. Its a great panel, and the gsync works great for eliminating micro stutter and screen tearing. "But /u/RedZaturn, why would you get 144hz when 240hz is a thing!?!?!?" Well timmy, a good 240hz adaptive sync monitor costs almost as much as this entire PC. And you won't be able to tell the difference between 144hz and 240hz anyways until you have been playing on a 144hz monitor for quite some time.

After that, get a good mouse with a decent sensor. Optical mice are generally better than laser mice. I prefer the zowie mice, because they allocate their money toward build, switch, and sensor quality instead of lights and styling. A large mousepad is also a good thing to get.

After that, Get a mechanical keyboard with the switch of your choice. I prefer reds. Cherry MX switches are the most trusted out there, but any mechanical switch will be better than a membrane keyboard.

If you have an old windows pc lying around you can use the key off of the sticker on the case to activate pirated windows. If the activate windows watermark doesn't bother you, there is no point worrying about buying a legitimate copy.

is this a good keyboard to buy for gaming? I've heared that IKBC is a good company

That's building a custom keyboard, though. Stock mechanicals can be had for under $100. Here are a couple of tenkeyless boards that have Cherry switches and are a pretty good value:

My kid types on a RF87U. Loves it. Only because we share 1 fam computer at home.

You haven't indicated form factor. People might disagree with me, but TKL is good in wiping keys out that (basically) only accountants or spreadsheet wizards use. Get a basic TKL with some easy to use switches for kid fingers (probably linears) and get it in a basic color without in key LEDs or RGB.

IKBC w/MX Reds might be a good choice, $77 US w/PBT keycaps. Upgrade to something else when kids bitch about mushy keys.
