You can do what we did back in the 20th century--

  • got an old heating oil tank, like this, for free

  • and then bought a waterbed liner, which are still really inexpensive,

  • and a waterbed heater. Ours was pretty ghetto but you can get some really nifty ones now, even Magnetic Field-free heaters




    If you don't have experience with oxygen/acetelene welders, get a friend who does, or hire someone to cut the tank in half "width" wise all the way down the length. Clean that as best as you can, Fasten liner with some glue, and the heater...


    The only really costly part is thr salt. You can buy it in bulk, will still cost you around $300 (but you get many floats from it before you have to change the water... just make sure you and everyone who uses it showes right before they get in the tank!

    Oh it does take a little space but it's really doable!
