I tried doing a joystick swap on my SN30 Pro. The joystick caps fit the joystick modules just fine, but they didn't fit through the controller casing properly.
My solution was to add these caps instead. They work fine for preventing wear on the joystick caps. I've used a set on my new Pro+ as well, and they fit on that controller as well.
That said, I'd still be more comfortable with a full stick mod if someone can provide pictures of a working one. Have you tried these joysticks?
Really all you need is something like this (assuming your joystick is to scale), but TPU could work.
If it bothers you so much, get stick covers like these, they are in budget.
