I'd strongly recommend checking ebay for the processor as it's not worth anywhere near paying 200 bucks for.
What about dropping a Core 2 Quad into your old mobo and adding 2 GB of DDR2? Not your sexy build but you could do this as a stopgap til you need to upgrade the graphics card (it sounds like you're processor bound).
Also HDD I/O has come a long way in 5 years. If you decide to go for the gold you might look into whether or not it make sense to replace this.
