If you do have an interest in perspectives about the progressive nature of academia from the other side of the aisle, you might enjoy Intellectuals and Society by Thomas Sowell or this article by Robert Nozick. Rejecting the book your parents gave you certainly doesn't make you close-minded, but you also owe it to yourself to read something more rigorous about the topic.

Lol, myopic thinking like the belief that one person's perspective on economics is correct is a violation of everything Sowell wrote in Intellectuals and Society. https://www.amazon.com/Intellectuals-Society-Thomas-Sowell-ebook/dp/B0077BONEY/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1520018995&sr=1-1&keywords=intellectuals+and+society+by+thomas+sowell That said, I don't think you understand the principles of Basic Economics. Perhaps you should stay away from books for a while being that you aren't capable of reading them objectively without the veneer of your stupid. Sowell doesn't moralize economic concepts. He gives facts and figures and then argues concepts. Very different than your four legs good, two legs bad conception of economics.

Thomas Sowell's work is some of the best.

With The Quest for Cosmic Justice, I'd also recommend Intellectuals and Society.
