OP, all discussions aside I think the mouse like you suggest is already available. Wacom has a mouse for their pen tablets/digitizers, kind of like Surface Pen or Apple Pencil but shaped like a mouse.

Wacom tablets work by active tablets detecting passive pens in 0.005mm resolution or 5000 dpi at 200 points/sec using magnetic resonance. So it's completely free of batteries(unlike N-trig), and it also works in various sizes from A7 to A3.

I guess the technology is there but nobody's using it, not that never been tried.

Afrotech Mods used to be a VERY FUN site... Then he growth a beard (in the Riker sense) and excluded all the old content and put up some new, better, more informative, but not nearly as fun.

He did a induction charged mouse with the coil in the mousepad. It didn't worked very well, then he did asked for help for ahrnold and he fixed (it needed more powah)... yes, that was how he rolled in his articles.

Now he deleted all his old articles and has no wayback machine records.

It worked. Simple as that. just that it makes very little sense to run a cable to the mousepad and not the mouse. it become less portable and more complex. USUALLY, if you want a wireless mouse, you want some kind of portability and/or freedom of cables. That means OR you want to use your mouse away of your computer OR you want to takeaway your mouse. and this solution doesn't help with neither.

NEEDING to take my mousepad with every travel that i do with laptop and wireless mouse makes little to no sense. for desks usually the wired mouse works just fine.

and this solution was already a product... if you take a Wacom Intuos and this: https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-KC100-INTUOS4-Button-Mouse/dp/B002BH4Q5K, you have a mouse that works wireless and no batteries AT ALL, but the mousepad (the digitizing surface) is plugged in the USB. this can it be one of the best ways to transform design drawings into CAD drawings. The absolute mapping 1:1 of the surface into your screen can it be very usefull and that is something that no other mouse can do. but if you look in the WACOM site they already discontinued this product. It has little to no marketing.
