If you buy the cheap USB turntables like so, it usually just converts to MP3 which is a compressed audio format. It's not a lossless format. Depending on the settings you lose a lot quality.
If you use a standard DJ type turntable, usually you can save the audio as FLAC which is lossless.
This one isn't bad to start with. You won't need a pre-amp to plug it into your stereo, which you would need if you only have an aux input, not a phono input. You can always upgrade to a better turntable once the vinyl addiction sets in. Also try /r/vinyl.
