You don't need 'optane support' if you are using it as a boot drive. It appears like any other NVMe SSD. It should be a drop in replacement. You need the 'optane support' only if you intend to use it ad a cache drive.

The only catch is 905p is a PCIe card. You need a M.2 to PCIe 4x adapter like this one. https://www.amazon.com/M-2-NGFF-PCI-Express-Adapter/dp/B01I2WVFLU
You won't be able to close the back cover.

Optionally, you can get an eGPU enclosure and put the 905p inside it and attach to the laptop via thunderbolt.

I you are getting the u.2 version, you will either need to get a m.2 to u.2 adapter or thunderbolt to u.2 adapter. You will need the adapter in this article https://techreport.com/news/30251/intel-bridges-the-u-2-gap-with-an-m-2-cable-for-its-750-series-ssd
or this kind
https://www.startech.com/ca/m/HDD/Adapters/u2-m2-adapter-nvme~M2E4SFF8643
and plugin a u.2 cable to the 905P SSD

Got it working on an ASUS Prime Z270-A. You need a m.2 to PCI-e adapter, like this.

I saw your comment about that adapter and found this rather quickly.

Not expensive and seeming available, just in case anyone was trying to replicate this!
