I recently bought and installed (myself) a factory refurb Kenwood DMX905S for $350. It supports wireless android auto, and wired apple carplay. After using wireless android auto a month I think it is totally worth it to spend extra and get the wireless capability. I have been using wireless android auto since installing into the car and it has been very reliable. every time I start the car, android auto starts within 20 sec, a wired connection is quicker though. My priority was wireless, capacitative screen and sound quality and I am absolutely satisfied with these three functions. the newest model is Kenwood DMX906S (refurb) currently selling for $474 which offer both android auto and apple carplay wireless capability. these units come with two USB inputs for android auto and carplay, so you can just leave the cables plugged into the unit if you want.
