Kodoku by Kenichi Horie. First known person to cross the Pacific solo.

Endurance by Alfred Lansing. The 1915 Shackelton Antarctic Expedition becomes trapped in the ice before reaching shore, and is slowly crushed. The men get all their equipment off safely, but now they're stranded. There's zero chance of rescue, because it's 1915. There's no sense in trying to make it to shore, and they are hundreds of miles from the edge of the pack ice.

The Terror by Dan Simmons. Well written historical horror fiction about a 19th century expedition searching for the Northwest Passage.
