I've read this book over and over and it always strikes such vivid images in my head! I can clearly see the island, the characters, the surroundings every time i read it.
If you like it, I'd recommend reading Kon Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl.
It's about a bunch of Scandinavians that built a raft and sail it across the Pacific Ocean in the late '40s. Great read.
