I really hope some of you try this - it will blow your mind. It solves the audio problem completely and super effectively. All of the instructions are in the Imgur post.

Here's a link to the headphones:
KOSS KSC75 Headphones

Edit: You can get black ones from Drop! Massdrop KSC75X

And a link to the optional, fancier faux leather ear cups:
Ear Cushion Replacement for Headset, Compatible with Sennheiser Px200

Now I'm going back into VR! Hope to see some of you there.

EDIT: I made some cosmetic touches that make it look much better. New pictures HERE

so these drivers used in these earbuds are what they recon could be what the cv1 comes with... cheap but good specs!

http://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

The KSC75s feature dynamic elements for a wide frequency response from 15-25,000 Hz. A two-millimeter titanium diaphragm coating increases rigidity, which means less distortion and therefore more accurate sound reproduction. Neodymium magnets help deliver greater volume, even with low-voltage portable devices, and oxygen-free copper voice coils improve signal transmission and conduction for cleaner, clearer sound.

Frequency Response: 15-25,000 Hz
Impedance: 60 ohms
Sensitivity: 101 dB SPL/1mW
Distortion: Less Than 0.2%

i had no idea you could get such good earbuds for that price

$40? Sounds like a set of Samson SR850 will be the best thing you can get your kid.

They are going to be far superior to any Beats or Skullcandy offering. They also look way better too (IMO.)

If you're just picking out what looks coolest, you're going to be replacing them often, as those particular brands aren't well known for quality of sound, or durability of construction.\

If you're okay with mildly worse microphone quality and mostly want to listen to music you can always buy this tiny bluetooth audio receiver for $15, and then get this pair of Koss headphones for $15, and just put them in your helmet lol. Those Koss headphones the best you can get for that price range and punch way above their weight, and will beat any motorcycle branded set for sure. They can also get loud enough that they need to be turned down on the highway.

You just take the ear hooks off the headphones, then replace your helmet ear pads with the headphones and do some cable management underneath the helmet padding so that you can hook up the headphones to the bluetooth receiver. You can secure the receiver with a piece of velcro anywhere you want, I've got it secured underneath my chin so I can tap the buttons. You can also secure the headphones with velcro if you need. Whole project costs barely over $30. Microphone audio isn't even that bad, I just have to mount it inside my helmet to reduce most of the wind noise. I've been using this setup for over 2 years now, and the receiver will outlast my phones battery, I don't even know how long because I've never managed it use it up within a day before, but it claims 15 hours.

Like these, Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone Headphones? I recently purchased a pair to use with my Sansa fuze as I do not like ear buds.

u/ItsRowlet · 10 pointsr/EtikaRedditNetwork

Right now they are $15 USD on amazon

u/VirtuePowder · 9 pointsr/buildapcsales

Definitely not. They are very uncomfortable. The vinyl covering the pads is as thick as shoe leather. The headband is too narrow and doesn't expand properly for larger heads; it just flattens out, causing a poor fit. The sound is meh.

The absolute best headphones you can get for cheap are the Koss KSC75. They are super light weight, and sound great. They sound better than headphones that are 10 times the price. They are open, so they have little distortion, but you will be able to hear your surroundings. That's a both a pro and a con in my book. Plus people sitting right next to you will be able to hear what you hear (sightly).

They're $16 with Prime shipping on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006B486K

Eventually, I break them, but I keep buying them. I just ordered my 5th pair in as many years. I also own the Sportapros. Same sound, but with a headband.

u/rube · 8 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

I'm confused.. how is this not in ear?

I use these wired headphones most of the time:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006B486K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Because I like to have just one ear in at times and I too hate to have anything in my ear.

So how are these Razer earbuds not "in ear"?

Depending on your price range we have
these 15$ ATH-EQ300M significantly cheaper and easier to obtain than OP's. I just got these yesterday and I've been using them for quite some time. They sound great but I would also suggest getting these Koss headphones.

u/happy_otter · 7 pointsr/bicycling

As I've said many times, it completely depends on what kind of headphones you're wearing. If you're wearing isolating in-ear monitors blasting music at full volume, you can't even hear a firetruck siren until they're 20 feet behind you. If you're wearing open on-ear headphones like the Koss KSC-75, which I really recommend for use in traffic, and listening to music at a reasonable volume, I'd argue that the reduction in wind noise that the headphones offer will almost make up for the music's masking effect. ^(This might be subjective, I'm not sure how much wind noise other people experience when not wearing anything on their ears, but I can say that for me, it's quite loud.) Wind noise shenanigans aside, the open, on-ear headphone is very good at letting outside noise in, and if you haven't tried it out, you shouldn't come and tell me it's dangerous, especially given the dramatic lack of actual research that the author of the article acknowledges.
Of course, this also means that in a very noisy environment, you're going to have a hard time to hear your music over the ambient noise. I don't think this applies to most cyclists though.

u/Exotli8 · 6 pointsr/oculus

You can buy the Koss KSC75 headphones, same ones as the built ins on the CV1 for 15 bucks. I easily bent them so they wrap around the headsets and plugged them into the front. 15 bucks and 10 minutes of modding.

Take your pick. The drivers in that Amazon link are the very same Oculus used in the CV1, so using them will get you CV1 audio quality.

u/TheColdFenix · 6 pointsr/oculus

The Koss KSC75 are also really good and much cheaper. Also more comfortable for use with a vr headset imo.

u/kanyecolle · 6 pointsr/headphones

I think the KSC75s would be perfect for you. The sides "twist" over your ears, so there's no need for a headband. They sound really good for the price, too!

u/Reddituser703 · 5 pointsr/oculus

I'm going to buy these headphones. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006B486K

Supposedly they're pretty good and there's been some talk that Koss might be the supplier of the original Rift Cv1 headphones. Because these headphones attach to each ear separately (no band), it should work with the Rift S pretty easily.

Hopefully these tide me over until Oculus comes out with an official headphones addon.

u/[deleted] · 5 pointsr/Frugal

Here you go.

Koss KSC75

Always rated on the headphone crazy forums as the best value headphones out there. I have one on my ear right now as I type this. Great sound, super cheap price, and should last you a while. Compact for easy storage when traveling and the proper clip on shape that when you go running or whatever they will stay on your ears.

u/bdcblue · 5 pointsr/headphones

The only way for a headphone to wrap around the neck is for some piece of the headband to be resting behind the back of your ear. If by "studio headphone" you mean an over-ear headphone, then I can't imagine how a piece of the headband could rest behind the back of the ear while having ear cups that surround the ear.

Here is the best sounding, and best priced, headphone with a headband that goes behind the head. It is on-ear, because it's physically impossible to have an over-ear headphone with a band that goes behind the head.

http://www.amazon.com/Koss-155475-SportaPro-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B00001P505

Here's a picture of what they look like with the headband adjusted behind the neck.

I have these and they sound really nice: http://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1417476998&sr=1-1&keywords=koss+ksc75

Kramer Mod, Ear-clip mod, recabled, new pads and a bit of sharpie love.

I adore these headphones and cannot give them any fault.
Nothing needs to be said about the price:performance of these.

If you've never tried them, just buy them.

u/EphemeralRain · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

This is a horrible head set. The sound quality is awful, and there's a constant hiss from the USB amplifier. On max bass boost, the bass is muddy and intrudes on the other sound ranges; on minimum bass boost, the sound feels empty and tinny. There's no good middle ground that I found. The soundstage is also horrible, which makes it far from ideal for gaming as you can't really perceive positional audio well.

You will honestly get much better sound quality out of the Koss KSC75 with a Zalman Mic attached, for even a few bucks cheaper.

u/Lurkily · 4 pointsr/oculus

The equipment pictured are:

The Rift S, and updated Touch Controllers.

Command mini-hooks to mount the touch controllers in grabbing position when not in use.

Saitek X45 HOTAS setup - I found a number of these used available for around $45. They no longer support Windows 10 with their drivers, but these work fine for me with the older drivers. No link because any link to a used set will be sold soon after it's posted.

Selfpro men's sweat wicking headbands. They help reduce sweat and heat in the headset, as well as hold your hair back so it can't grease up your lenses.

Koss KSC75 headphones. Take off the clips and just tuck them under the headband, over your ear. Wind the cord around the halo over your ear, so that at rest they dangle in the right palce. The clips snap-off and snap-on, so prying them off won't damage them.

Three inch googly eyes. Easily the most important part of this kit after the headset itself.

Amazon Basics rechargable batteries.

Universal battery charger with LCD display.

Powerpax storacell AA battery caddy, so I don't have to fuck about with loose batteries. Take batteries from the right, add recharged batteries on the left. If you don't pack it 100% full, the empty space can show you which batteries have the oldest recharge - first in, first out.

Cheap and shitty A-frame computer desk.

Not pictured: Shitty Essentials armless swivel chair

EDIT: There are not any custom grips. The stock straps are hitched to the ring and re-attached.

u/iwearcr0wns · 4 pointsr/GlobalOffensive

Some people think that "bass boosted", "closed back", "noise isolation/cancellation", "virtual surround", are good things when it comes to headsets for csgo. Honestly had some of the best sound with these cheap things when I was looking for headphones.

Edit: For those in the market, the most important thing to look for are ones with open/semi-open back for a wider soundstage and something with decent sounding treble. Bass is only going to make things harder to hear so avoid anything that's over the top.

u/plazman30 · 4 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

Koss KSC-75. Nothing sounds finer or is more comfortable in the sub $20 range.

If you have access to a 3d printer theres a few mounts already coming out. Pair a mount with some Koss head phones like these and you will be set.

This is my favorite mount out there atm but I know someone else is working on a better one from scratch but will take some time.

u/RoundSparrow · 3 pointsr/SuicideWatch

> I've got this thing about earbuds when in close quarters so that's no good. All I've really tried is showing up and sweating a lot.

I war over-ear headphones like http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006B486K -- they are a little larger to carry in pocket/laptop bag, but they have some advantage. You can hear room noise/people talking with them better - I use them for working city streets to maintain awareness of my surrounding.

With headphones on walking up to and exiting class, people can assume you are in your own world (which you are) and won't assume your social-interaction is due to your own problems - just that you are relaxing between classes like a lot of people do.

It's going to be hard no matter what, so focus on how you can do what you want (get to class, conquer your fears).

Any sort of those ear-clip Koss's. If you're crafty you can sew them into the helmet, that's what I did. Super cheap (15 bucks) and super nice, actually great sound quality.

EDIT: Found em. Koss KSC75's.

u/robertmeta · 3 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

Koss KSC75s. Among the best sound in your price range. Absolutely the best in the price range that isn't an in ear. The cord isn't particularly strong but it often isn't the point of failure when it gets caught on something, the part that goes around your ear will pop off and can be easily snapped back in.

u/Geoff_Uckersilf · 3 pointsr/headphones

I use koss ksc75's for work outs. They are dirt cheap, 10/10 sq for the price and are great being open they let outside sound in because you need to have your wits about you out in public, especially anywhere near roads.

u/SiegeLion1 · 3 pointsr/shittyrainbow6

US Amazon listings are a bit odd for them, but this has new and used ones between $12-15

In the UK I have to import them from the US and they're strangely easier to find.

u/backlumchaam · 3 pointsr/headphones

If I'm understanding you correctly, something like Koss KSC75 sound about right.

Cheap, great sound for the price, repairable/mod-able. Did I mention cheap? Cheap enough to ruin and not care. Definitely not 'tinny' but they do have somewhat muddy bass. Still outstanding for the price. And they provide pretty much no isolation.

A price range in these recommendation threads is always helpful, FYI.

u/inseinej · 3 pointsr/skiing

My personal opinion is wireless anything is garbage, especially when it comes to audio stuff and batteries\bluetooth add another thing I have to prep each time I go skiing therefore I go wired.

I use these headphones:

https://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K

Just pull the clips and case off and they fit perfectly inside the helmets headphone holes. Don't let the 11 dollar price point fool you...these are highly regarded in the audio community and sound as good or better than high end 200+ audiophile headphones and will absolutely shit all over any bluetooth wireless headphone solutions sold for helmets.

u/FolkSong · 3 pointsr/virtualreality

If you don't want to spend a lot I can recommend the Koss KSC-75. They're well known for having very good audio quality for the price, and the ear-clip style should work well with the S.

u/VagrantAI · 3 pointsr/headphones

Ever tried the KSC75 or KSC75X? As far as I know, they have the same drivers as the PortaPros at a lower price, and without the metal headband.

I wear glasses and I love them. Some don't like how they feel out of the box, but you can easily bend the ear clips to the shape of your ear and they practically disappear, yet the great audio and wide open soundstage remain.

u/Meatballsane · 3 pointsr/VRGaming

from what i've gathered the rift s is amazing, and is hard to beat if not impossible to beat for its price, you'd probably want to make some small changes such as getting koss headphones or in-ears or something as a substitute to the horrible audio though

what is "relatively low" to you? because if you think the rift s is a reasonable price i'd say it's what you should go for

only big issue i've heard about the rift s is that the IPD isn't for nearly everyone, make sure it's about 59-67

u/wtfisthisnoise · 3 pointsr/headphones

Try the Koss KSC-75s; they're only $15 and in all honesty, you won't notice sound quality in that noisy of an environment (but they are pretty good for the price). They are clip-ons, so they'll be lightweight (there are mods to attach a headband though). They are open, but sound leak won't be noticeable in a gym. PX-100s are another set that are more lightweight and smaller than either the shure or hd. Your isolation will be bad with anything other than IEMs or buds, though.

u/buttsquirts · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

if $60 is too much for your headphone budget, get the KSC75 + headband for less than $25. Just as good IMHO, with the KSC75 being more fun/bassy, portable, and doesn't leak sound as much.

u/QuipA · 3 pointsr/headphones

> sub $30
> not plastic

not going to happen.

But if you want great sound on a tight budget, look for the Koss KSC75. They sound a lot better than any generic gaming headset in the sub $100 price range.

u/tankintheair315 · 3 pointsr/Music

> AD8620

That was always the one I settled on. Wasn't too much of a difference with the other ones, but the AD8620 was definitely barely noticably better, especially with good headphones.

Can I recommend the Koss KSC-75?

https://www.amazon.ca/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K

They're written about on pretty much every audiophile website there is, because they are $200 sound for $20 price. I've bought 4 pairs. They're also high(er) impedance at 32 ohms, which makes them too quiet at max volume on a mobile phone on a train, which makes them perfect for a C-Moy!

u/FrozenBananaMan · 3 pointsr/virtualreality

Sorry! Should have specified

u/Ditchmag · 3 pointsr/oculus

I ordered this 3d printed mount from Jorg the elder and am using portapros, but you could also use the KSC75 (I have both and the sound is nearly the same). It's supposed to be the same drivers that the og rift used.

This works and sounds GREAT! You can adjust the headphones to just hover on your ears, offset, or press on them. I ordered them in black so they look pretty good too. Ask me anything if you have questions.

To piggyback off this, I use a pair of Koss KSC75's in my office and they are some of the most comfortable over-ear headphones I've ever used. They're also incredibly cheap.

u/ColossalKiwi · 3 pointsr/headphones

I completely agree, and was considering bringing this up myself. $20 for a $5 Monk+ with a braided cable isn't as good a value as the KSC-75 at $15. They're both cheap, portable solutions with low isolation. They cater to the same needs.

The Monk+ is great at $5, but if you're going to be spending $15+ then the KSC-75 is definitely better for the money. People love collecting those Monks, though, which is understandable.

Edit: The KSC-75 is currently $10 on Amazon, which makes them even more of a great value for the money.

Get better headphones. My over the ear Sennheisers I can wear all day.

I guess you can try stretching out the band that goes over your head? You get what you pay for. Alternatively, these are a very cheap option that sound decent and are comfy, but they bleed audio like nothing else and don't block out any external noises (so in a way, safer than earbuds if walking around town), so they work best if you're in a somewhat quiet area by yourself.

u/echo_nove · 2 pointsr/headphones

Oh hullo look at that: KSC75 is $15 now

u/vennox · 2 pointsr/Vive

Just got these Koss KSC75, but haven't tested them all too much.

They sound nice, are light and comfortable and super cheap. Not isolating in any way but I don't have a noisy environment and imho are extremely ugly, but they are just for VR so whatever.

I think I heard/felt the best positional audio in SPT with these today of any headphones (Sennheiser Momentum 2, Sony CD580, Vive Earplugs) I tried with the Vive.

Didn't mod anything just organized the cable a little. When I'm done playing I clip them on the side straps. Would appreciate suggestions for improving the cable mess or a permanent mounting solution.

Koss KSC75's. These things fucking rock. They're the definitive cheap headphone and sound incredible. They're open, so other people will hear your music, but fuck other people because you're at the gym to do work, and they should be too. The plastic holder things occasionally get a little uncomfortable, but you can just readjust them and you'll be good for another hour or two. Plus, they're pretty durable. I've had mine for about two years now with fairly active use and they're still solid.

u/TheRook · 2 pointsr/headphones

I have been through quite a bit of earbuds, but they all annoy me when I start to sweat. On top of that, I nearly got ran over by a car speeding over a red light, while wearing my former Sennheiser cx 300... So no more outside sound isolation when running for me.

The KSC-75 has been an awesome choice for me. Great fit and excellent sound.

After buying a pair 1½ years ago and seeing how amazing they are, I purchased 2 other pairs to have in reserve. Don't do that. My first pair is still going strong and show no sign of tear or wear. :)

u/Scooternuts · 2 pointsr/headphones

If you're wanting some on-ear headphones that have decent sound quality, I recommend the Koss KSC75s. I'm pretty sure these use the same drivers used in their famed PortaPros, and they can be modded to sound even better. Just look up the Kramer mod for these and have a go if you like!

High quality files into high quality headphones is quite something my friend. Though it doesn't really get much better than 320kbps, even on really revealing setups. If by chance you've got some cash to spend, I can point you at the right gear. If you've really got nothing, [these] (http://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1380679783&sr=1-3&keywords=ksc+15) are better than 99% of anything under 20 bucks.

Can I get an amazon link? That website of yours won’t even let me look at the product without signing up.

These were the closest I could find, but they don’t look the same.

Did you consider the Koss KSC 75 ? There are 3d printable attachments available. Search for it. I bought these because people kept recommending them and I find them pretty nice. I use them as is, without mounting them to the HMD. The look and build quality leaves something to be desired, but they sound really good and are surprisingly comfortable to wear.

u/sideswiped · 2 pointsr/oculus

Lot of speculation that they are just Koss cans (or some variant of their on ear compact drivers). Great for the price. They'll be a huge step up from the cheap earbuds most people are used to, but they're far from being "highly advanced". That said, it sets a good ground level for sound quality for the Rift experience and should shine for positional audio since they can tune to its specific sound stage.

u/Mythrilfan · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

KSC-75. They use the same drivers as the PortaPros but cost less than half as much. Game over, as far as I'm concerned. I use - among others - a pair of $300 headphones and am still convinced that the KSC-75 is the best deal ever.

u/triforce-of-power · 2 pointsr/Warframe

People who play without sound instead of buying headphones. Look, I get it, you don't want to disturb your neighbors or your roommates (or you really prefer your music), but playing without any sound is seriously gimping yourself and communication with your squad. Sound helps you track Kuva in siphon missions, identify the position of incoming threats, and even identify which assassin is about to invade (Stalker's sound is very distinct).

Even if you don't have a lot of money for a nice headset, at least go out and buy a set of Koss KSC75 (these things are really solid for cheap headphones). Your teammates will appreciate it and you'll enjoy the benefits of proper stereo sound in your games.

u/spamyak · 2 pointsr/headphones

The cheap cans that sound good don't sound quite as good and are built quite poorly. Tell me, do you apply your generic equivalent theory to cars? Colas? Televisions? Sometimes things are just worth the money. If anything, the brands this subreddit promotes are already the best value alternatives.

You want very cheap headphones with tradeoffs? Look at these:

Tascam TH-02, $20: Small, cheap, uncomfortable, decent sound.

KOSS KSC-75, $12: tiny, clip on, open headphones with surprising quality

u/heyyoudvd · 2 pointsr/iphone

As a lover of high end headphones and high fidelity speakers, I can say without any doubt that absolutely NOTHING comes close to a pair of Koss KSC75s as far as the price-to-performance ratio goes. They're under 15 bucks and they beat the pants off of the vast majority of $50+ headphones you'll find.

In fact, I prefer them over my Grado SR60s, which, at $79, are considered a bargain in the headphone world. The KSC75s aren't that far behind my $200 Audio Technica A900s, which are also highly praised among audiophiles. Granted, the A900s are definitely better, but the KSC75s give me 80% of the sound quality, for less than 10% of the price.

My point is that the KSC75s are a steal. Go for them.

P.S. They come with a lifetime warranty. If they ever break, send them in, pay shipping, and presto, you get a brand new pair in the mail.

I think you might get pointed towards /r/headphoneadvice, looks like purchase requests are supposed to go there, but if I can spent the time telling you that I can spend the time giving you some recommendations too!

If you're looking for something you can use while working out, you're probably going to want to avoid over-ear headphones. These are typically designed for relaxed listening or sitting still, so not an ideal choice for the gym or a jog. In case you're curious about over-ears however, or you want a dedicated pair that you won't use for working out, an exceptional choice right now is the Sennheiser HD 58X from Massdrop, currently available for $135. Just know that those are going to be fairly large headphones, and they're "open-back" meaning they make no effort to keep outside sound out, or inside sound in. They're designed to be used in quiet rooms. An office-mate may hear what you're listening to if they're close enough. The sound quality from a good pair of open-backs however can't be beat!

For working out, I'd say something within either the on-ear or in-ear categories would suit you well. On-ear headphones are typically much lighter and smaller, which makes them far better suited for working out. The same goes for in-ears, their size and the nature of the fit make them almost impossible to knock out of your ears.

For on-ears, you might look at something like the Koss KSC75x, 14 bucks on Amazon or the Koss Porta Pros, 25 bucks on Massdrop. If you make a new account for the "20 dollars off orders of 30+" coupon and choose 5 dollar shipping, you can manipulate the price down to 10 bucks. It's honestly probably the best deal in audio right now! I just jumped on that deal myself actually! Both are solid for working out since they're so light, and both are known for their surprisingly good audio quality despite their price tag and retro look.

Now for in-ears, you might check out the Tin T2s, $35 on Massdrop right now. They're widely regarded as the best IEMs below 200 bucks if what you're looking for is quality neutral sound. If you prefer a little more bass, you can always perform the very simple "vent mod" which just involves taping up a small hole. They have excellent isolation, and use what's called an MMCX connection, so you can replace the cable if yours ever breaks or you want a different one. I've owned a pair of these, and I loved them.

So all in all, you're looking at well below 50 bucks for a pair of good headphones that you can work out with, but also use at home or work. If you want to really step into high-end audio, you could grab a $10 pair of Porta Pros for working out and the HD 58X for $135 for really high quality office/home listening/gaming/whatnot.

u/itwurx4me · 2 pointsr/linux_gaming

The best headset I know of, I cobbled together from bits and bobs I found on Amazon and Ebay.

I got tired of headsets wearing out and falling apart, so I built my own. I put a cheap computer microphone and pair of Koss Headphone speakers into a used David Clark H10-76 aviation headset.

This is connected to an absolutely ancient (circa 1998) Sound Blaster Live! 1024 that I scavenged from an old computer I found at the recycling center. This super-comfy, super-sounding mongrel runs out of the box on my Xubuntu 18.10 rig.

What model headset are you trying to get working? What Distro and DE are you using? What's your system (CPU, GPU, motherboard, etc.) info? What happens when you plug your headset in? It just strikes me as so peculiar that I can't help think there's something else going on, possibly with the hardware itself?

u/GreatThunderOwl · 2 pointsr/Metal

>My laptop speakers

I don't know your laptop specs but in general laptops have horrendous speakers. No slight against you, mine are terrible as well.

>$15 headphones

What do you use? I got Koss KSC75 for less than $20 and they are very solid, especially for their price. My last pair cost me $25 and they broke within six months. Not all headphones are created equal.

u/kwx · 2 pointsr/Vive

If this is painfully expensive for you, I'd recommend getting neither one and waiting. This is early days of consumer VR, and you'll get better headsets for less money if you're patient. If you do go ahead, I assume you've already budgeted any needed PC upgrades to make it run well?

(1) Yes, integrated audio would be nice. The Vive has a headphone jack so it's easy to use your own without needing an extra PC-to-head cable. I got the Koss KSC75 for $15 - very light, excellent sound for the price, and they don't shift around when you move your head. According to rumors the Oculus integrated headphones may be Koss derived or at least very similar, so it should also work well for apps tuned for that.

(2) Up to you if you believe that STEM will have comparable specs, but even if they do end up working well I wouldn't expect widespread support in games and apps for them. You will want tracked controllers, and getting Oculus Touch will probably add a similar extra cost.

(3: Comfort) I get the impression that the Rift is more comfortable if you have the right-shaped head. People with large heads have complained it's not a good fit and that the Vive is more flexible with its soft straps, and it also has alternate padding for different face shapes. The Vive appears to work better with glasses.

(3: Display): The core display resolution and technology seems to be the same. The Vive has a bigger FOV and was measured to be 2.5x brighter, while the Rift has less screen door effect and appears sharper since it shows the same number of pixels inside its smaller FOV. Up to you which you consider more important.

(3: optics): not a big difference here, though it seems the Rift may have worse glare artifacts due to its finer Fresnel rings. The Vive seems less prone to light leakage due to better shielding near the nose.

Overall I think both are fine headsets technically, with slightly different tradeoffs. If you want the maximum image quality for movie watching, consider a Gear VR since that has higher resolution than either of them.

For me, roomscale is the deciding factor - I was convinced this is a must-have as soon as I tried it. The Rift can technically do this, but it's clearly not been a priority for Oculus so far, so if it's important to you I'd go with the Vive which has put a lot of effort into making it work well, including Chaperone and the front-facing camera.

they’re also better if you tend to get headaches.

u/MotivicRunner · 2 pointsr/AdvancedRunning

If you're okay with over-ear headphones, I've been a fan of the Koss KSC75 for a number of years. In my experience, they stay in place really well, are reasonably comfortable, and don't isolate me from the sounds of the outside world as long as I keep the volume at a reasonable level. My only real complaint is that mine have had a tendency lose sound in one ear after about a year or so of regular use (I think due to the wiring getting loose). But since they're generally under $15, that isn't too hard on the wallet.

u/DyceFreak · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I always have a couple pairs of these lying around. I don't excercise with them regularly so I would assume the pads would get somewhat nasty after a while but they work and don't fall off + have great sound. The cord is also a tad longer than the Apple Earbuds and isn't as rubbery so it doesn't catch on things. I recently got a zit in my ear because of those apple earbuds so I'm also taking a break from them too.

u/x-munki · 2 pointsr/oculusnsfw

From what i know, the best type of headphones for binaural audio are open-type ones, closed types have almost zero soundstage which is supposedly a crucial factor for that immersive binaural 3d audio effect. Also when buying headphones specifically for VR, you also have to look for decent comfort and a good stability (they stay on your head).

Open-type headphones with little to no noise isolation are actually quite a must for me personally, since i love playing some low volume hot sexy music from the outside source while watching the videos, and i also love to hear myself talk while in VR (makes it even more immersive when you are able to "communicate" with a girl IMO).

Something like this would be a decent pick, these are superb for the price...

u/Reasonabledwarf · 2 pointsr/Vive

If you're gonna do Bluetooth, make sure you have a powerful radio, or else you'll get lots of dropped audio. It's also possible that the Vive only outputs to the headset, and by extension, the 3.5mm jack on the headset, in which case it wouldn't be an option without a lot of tweaking or reprogramming.

Any stereo headset/headphones will do 360 sound, because you only have two ears; the 360 part comes from processing the audio on the CPU end (based on the estimated location of your ears from the position of the headset).

Personally, I'm vacillating between a cheap pair of on-ear headphones I bought (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006B486K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00) that are actually pretty solid, or wiring up my Philips bluetooth headset (http://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHB7000-28-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00CAJOOWE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1456873525&sr=8-2) which has the advantage of being easier to put on/take off.

u/shoneysbreakfast · 2 pointsr/Vive

I'm going with IEMs for personal use and on-ear clip-ons for demoing to people. These are super cheap and very, very nice for the price.

u/ColoradoResidENT · 2 pointsr/headphones

Koss KSC75 are Portapros but in earclip form factor.

u/thechilipepper0 · 2 pointsr/runningmusic

So they fixed the comfort issue? When I was looking into the Motorolas a few years back, the main issue was comfort, namely that they squeezed too much. Also price. I ended up going with a plantronics, which was noticeably lacking in sound quality (little to no bass and suspect clarity), but otherwise solid.

How's the sound? You said it's decent, the page claims better than wired. I don't need studio audiophile quality, but at least comparable to this http://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K. Despite the cheap price, they have decent bass and clarity.

u/warkrismagic · 2 pointsr/oculus

Not quite the same, but the headphones on the CV1(and what people are using for Rift S audio mods) are OEM Koss KSC75s. You could probably pick a pair of these up and figure out how to attach them if you're handy.

https://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K

u/10000_vegetables · 2 pointsr/virtualreality

When you get your unit make sure you know how to adjust the eye relief (it's in the manual). Apparently some people never realized they could get better FOV and clarity until a lot later. For software, OpenVR Advanced Settings and Oculus Tray Tool are handy things to have. VrCover is almost done developing their Rift S cover (i've been waiting so long for it), so keep your eyes peeled for that or sign up to get an email about it when they're done. Also you should get OpenComposite for those times when you want to run a SteamVR game that isn't working or has bad performance.

There's a big chance you won't like the built-in audio. If you do end up liking it, awesome, but if you don't, it's easy to upgrade it. If you don't want to spend much, you can't go wrong with Koss KSC75 headphones ($15). Plug em into the side of the headset and you're good to go, but you can take out the built in speakers and have them hang down using this mod or this mod (personally I did the latter). If you're willing to spend more, the PSVR Mantis headphones ($41.91) seems nice and easy to install and use.

Have you looked at the Koss KSC75? Sure they cost almost nothing, and look and feel pretty cheap, but they sound good. Surprisingly good.

I'm found ya a couple options for ya.

Planar Magnetic Headphones aka "special driver headphones"

Monoprice M1060s Perfectly fine stock, maybe a change of earpads if you're looking for something a little "more" https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-116050-Monolith-Magnetic-Headphones/dp/B01N32N5DD

Modhouse Argon Mk3s These are specially modded headphones that give you an option for choice of headband material and earpad material (sheep leather is soft man) http://www.modhouseaudio.com/argon-mk3/zimu3wz0oyxlavnprki2jovso6c31v

Dynamic Open Headphones aka, "normal headphones"

AKG K712 Pros Very accurate, lots of soundstage, plenty of bass You may have to get a used pair as prices are on the rise https://www.amazon.com/AKG-Pro-Audio-Reference-Headphones/dp/B00DCXWXEI

Philips X2/27 Almost the same as the 712s, a little more narrow of a soundstage and "possibly" less accurate Debatably less comf (comparatively speaking) Again, you'll need to get them used but they're cheaper used than 712s https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2-27-Fidelio-Headphone/dp/B00O2Y2MZG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1522866842&sr=8-2&keywords=philips+x2

Audio Technica ATH AD series Very accurate, good soundstage, amazing treble, but definitely bass light. It's an entire series of headphones and each model up adds a slight bump in quality overall, used or otherwise https://www.amazon.com/Technica-Audiophile-ATH-AD1000X-Open-Air-Headphones/dp/B009S330O8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522866903&sr=8-3&keywords=ATH+AD

Dynamic Closed Headphones

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Plenty of soundstage, treble is there, and BASS https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0006NL5SM/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522866927&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=beyerdynamic+dt770&psc=1

AKG K553 Pros Accurate, excellent mids, lacks soundstage but remarkably good build https://www.amazon.com/AKG-3280H00100-K-553-Pro/dp/B00X3MT7F6/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522866966&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=AKG+K550+Pros

Shure SRH840 Hesitant to put this on the list as this is basically how to perform studio monitoring Super Neutral, accurate as it gets almost, not a huge player in the soundstage game. You'll need new earpads for particularly long sessions of use https://www.amazon.com/Shure-SRH840-Professional-Monitoring-Headphones/dp/B002DP8IEK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522867035&sr=8-1&keywords=Shure+SRH840

And finally the Koss KSC75s get a pair, no exceptions. They are not a replacement for ANY of the other options on this list as they're closer to earbuds than headphones, but the amount of sound quality you get for their 15 dollar price point you should already own a pair https://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1522867066&sr=8-1&keywords=koss+ksc+75

A few of these may be hard to drive on their own and may need a headphone amp or dac/amp combo to run properly and if you're not at ease with that right now there are always options.

Morning everyone. I'm a bit indecisive right now. At the moment, I have the Sony MDR-V150s that are slowly going kaputt (cord issues). I don't need a new pair per se, but noticed Amazon had some headphones for a pretty decent price. Right now, I'm looking at Seinnheisser HD218 (Used) or the Sony MDRZX100 (Used/Refurbished). I'm open to other suggestions though.

Budget: $20ish. Really don't want to go over, but I can

Source: Either my desktop or phone (HTC EVO Shift, not sure if that matters)

Isolation: Indifferent. I suppose some would be nice. I use them while on bike rides, so I like being able to hear a little of what's going on around me, but I'm observant so it's not a big deal.

Preferred type: On ear, though I'm not opposed to the clips like these

Past headphones: My only "real" pair of headphones are the ones I have now, which are the Sony MDR-V150. From what I can tell, they deliver a solid sound. Comfortable cushions and not much of a hassle. Cord can be too long at times. But I'd rather that than too short.

Preferred music: I listen to a lot of different things. But mostly electronic (trance, electro house, Psybient, etc), rock (math-rock, prog, post hardcore, etc) and recently a lot more hip hop (Not really bass heavy, doesn't matter too much).

So yeah, wondering if those two I'm considering are worth it, if it's a good idea to buy used or refurbished or if you have any suggestions for something better around that price range. Thanks in advance.

Best goddamn budget headphones on the planet, in terms of sound. Every audiophile site on the planet will tell you they sound like $200 Grados or Sennheisers. And according to the audio output tests, they actually do outperform them.

Only downside is I hope you sure do like their weird design. And the fact that the wires are just being held onto the earphones by solder and nothing more and it WILL rip off if you try to shove them in a backpack.

To those of you unfamiliar with these, they are kinda legendary amongst the audiophile crowd for sounding damn good for 11 bucks.

I do not have a headset, but rather, I have a pair of Koss KSC75 headphones hooked directly to the audio output of my PS3 using old computer speakers for volume control/amplification.

It's not nearly as good as x11s or Astros (no mic obviously), but I can pick up a lot of sounds that I previously missed, I have some ability to position enemies through sound and it only cost me $20 for the headphones (which I use for other things) and $5 for a RCA audio to 3.5 stereo cable.

Budget - <30 bucks

Source - phone, computer ds maybe. I love general use

Isolation - i guess light isolation? I seem stupid saying light isolation but I want to be able to focus on the game or music while walking but talk to friends right next to me. (this is a stupid explanation)

Preferred type - after a life of using earbuds my inside ears dont look so good, trying to cut down on that, I would say maybe over ear

Tonal balance - Neutral as possible, I am not too particular about how something sounds, if it needs to be bass boosted to sound better then was it really good in the first place?

Past headphones - Koss Ksc75 (was great headphones but annoying to be sure) and the Koss portapros (actually really good but as of now one side lost sound)

Music - Anything that sounds great goes on my playlist, even rap, which I usually despise

Improvement - something that will last long hopefully, portapros lasted me for more then half a year (bought it in june)

I was also looking at this thing right here the mic I pretty much do not need, but otherwise everything looks nice otherwise

Note: I am a complete idiot so if you cringe while reading this shit, angrily suggest a reccomendation

A real pair of headphones. Headphones marketed as "gaming" "5.1" "7.1" etc are just kind of crap. Wireless headphones are usually just crap in general. The G930s are heavy, they cause (or are affected by) interference/dropped connections, they feel sloppy and cheap and when you wiggle them around the flop around like a limp penis... i can go on.

Get a real pair of headphones like Sennheiser HD558 or Audio Technica ATH-m50. I own a Senn 558s and they are seriously the most comfortable thing I put on my entire body everyday. I can wear them literally all day with absolutely zero discomfort. They sound light years better than "gaming" headphones. They come with a long cable(which is nice for you PC) so I just ordered a shorter cable on amazon. I'll probably shorten even further so it's not an issue at all when I plug it into the HDM cable.

As a back up, I just bought a pair of these Koss KSC75 because they come highly recommended for the price. I expect I'll be using these to take away from the bulk of having headphones on top of an HMD at the same time. They haven't arrived yet so I can't personally speak for their quality or comfort, I just know a lot of people in /r/headphones recommend them as a cheap alternative to buds. Some people say they rival headphones in the $100 price range in sound quality.

Look around /r/headphones. I owned a few Turtle Beach gaming headsets, a few Logitech gaming headsets, a Tritton gaming headset in the past 10+ years. It wasn't until I bought my Sennheisers about 1.5 years ago did I realize what awesome sound is and how comfortable headphones could be. I don't know if you were ever a console gamer, but to me, getting quality headphones was like taking that first step into PC gaming and realizing what you'd been missing out on.

I always listen to music whether I'm running, jogging, or just going for a walk. I use Koss KSC75s as they have great sound quality and stay on while running.

If I'm just running a mile or two as fast as possible I listen to hardcore punk or powerviolence. Some favorites are Tempest, Code Orange Kids, and Weekend Nachos.

If I'm running a couple miles I'll pick longer albums and I tend to go with sludge and screamo for those runs. Circle Takes the Square, Kehvlin, and Thou are favorites for these kinds of runs.

If I'm just doing a casual walk around the lake I tend to listen to post-rock, drone, doom, or just a podcast. Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Earth, and Rorcal are favorites for more calm walks.

These headphones are terrible - I have a pair. Some of the worst IEMs I've owned - and I've owned about 15 different pairs, from the absolute cheapest cheapos to triple.fi 10's.

OP - what type of headphone are you looking for? IEM? Over-the ear? Full sized? Is sound leakage OK? Your answers to these questions will change the recommendation we can give you.

For cheap headphones with great sound given the price, I'd recommend looking into the Koss KSC75 or Monoprice Enhanced Bass earbuds. I have both of these and they are a great bang for the buck. head-fi.org will recommend these as well.

The 280-pros sound terrible in comparison to the HD-555 entry-level audiophile cans.
280 pros excel in passive noise cancellation, not quality (the audiophile ones are all open-designed).

The 650's are Sennheiser's former flagship set. The 280's can barely even be considered a headphone in comparison.

If you want to upgrade sometime, hilariously, these $14 Koss headphones sound better than most non-audiophile headphones at low-medium volumes.

The HD-555's sound way better than the 280 Pros, if you wanna go for the audiophile route; they can be had for about $90. If you're a bass whore and have a bit of a higher budget, I can't recommend Denon AHD-2000 enough (about $230 if you get them at the right place).

Make sure you give any audiophile headphone a week or two of heavy use for burning-in to sound the best. It makes a huge difference. And if you thought your experience the other day was amazing... oh my.. there is a whole new world to discover yet.

u/King_Crustacean · 1 pointr/audiophile

I haven't had to use the warranty on mine yet, but I doubt I would unless it was the drivers themselves. If you don't want to deal with the warranty you might want to just check out a different pair. KSC75's are much cheaper and IIRC they use the same drivers and are $15~ or less if you like the sound of the PortaPros and don't mind the ear-clip style. Sennheiser PX-100's are pretty comparable to the PortaPros as well but a little more expensive. Or if you're feeling particularly DIY, you could try putting beefier cables on them or modding them even further.

I think you'd be happier if you went with ear muffs. You can get much higher isolation, foam and pads are replaceable, and they're generally able to put up with abuse. The dt770m comes fairly close, but you might spend a lot of money to find that they're not good enough for you. A lot of people don't like the way the dt770m sounds for music, which is why I noted the audiobook use. It sounds fine for audiobooks, but I don't even try to use it for music.

If you want the ultimate passive isolation wireless headphone setup that doesn't go into your ear canal, I think I have it.

  • 3M X5A ear muffs
  • 3M Peltor HY80 sealing ring pads (so expensive!)
  • Koss KSC75 headphones
  • Elecom bluetooth receiver

I haven't found a way to significantly improve the isolation of the ear muffs. The only way to get greater isolation is to wear in ear headphones, or to use ear plugs and crank up the volume. I actually like the latter when it's extremely noisy. The gel pads are for comfort and better sealing around eyeglasses and goggles. Keep in mind that hair can cause poor isolation due to leaks. The headphones are stuffed in without their ear loop, and I think they'll be less hassle than buds or plugs. I just literally installed them, so I won't know for sure until my next shift.

The bluetooth receiver may not suit you unless like me, you work 12 hour shifts and listen to them during your commute.

You may find two different ratings for the X5A. 31dB or 37dB. I also have the SilentSound ear muffs that are rated at 37dB, and they both block sound about the same. I wear the 3M ear muffs because they're less hassle to put on and take off in a production environment, and they're much more comfortable with the gel pads. The downside to the X5A is that they're very wide. People will say something about it.

Let me know if you have any questions, and especially if you have some ideas on how to improve my setup.
u/MrEprize · 1 pointr/audio

I agree with SuperDuckQ that the Koss PortaPro is a comfortable, wonderful and great sounding headphone. I use mine all the time.

I would also like to mention that the KSC75 is even more comfortable but does not have as much low end punch because they sit lighter on your ears. Yet they are very clear and get the job done. I would recommend them if you find the PortaPro uncomfortable or you need something smaller and more pack-able. I also use these quite often.

I think you misunderstand what I meant by "separate mic". It's not a free-standing mic or anything like that. Here, look at the website. It clips onto your headset using a magnet with a sticky back, so you can remove/attach it at will. For all intents and purposes exactly the same as a headset at the end of the day.

Assuming you pay $30 for the modmic (there are other clip-on mics, but the modmic is seen to be the very best), you have about $70 remaining for the headphones themselves.

If you don't mind the looks so much (which you said you have, I know -- but still, how often do you wear gaming headphones out in public/with others around? Unless you have a mirror right next to your gaming machine, you can just hide them away when not using them. Isn't it the performance in game that matters?), Koss KSC75s are amazing for the price (like I said they're no lookers), and clip ons are so much more comfortable, esp. with a big head. Total: ~$50.

Spending a bit more though, and if you don't want a clip-on pair (which I totally understand) perhaps a pair of ATH-AD500s would be the way to go. They're the little brother of the very popular AD700s (probably some of the most recommended gaming headphones), and are apparently perfect for those with large heads! Total: ~$90.

Those would be my two recommendations.

u/mathemagicat · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget
$50-75 (flexible)

Source
Cellphone and desktop PC.

Requirements for Isolation
Prefer minimal isolation.

Preferred Type of Headphone
I'm looking for something very specific here. I want a pair of non-earbud headphones with over-the-ear hooks (kind of like these or these) that are also wireless (preferably Bluetooth). I don't want a rigid behind-the-head band, just a soft wire or cord.

Preferred tonal balance
Don't care.

Past headphones
These were my favourite. I'm currently using this similar model, which is fine although the wire is threatening to break. I generally like this style for sitting at my desk.

But I'm tired of dealing with the wire, especially when working out.

Preferred Music
It really doesn't matter.

----

I don't care in the slightest what they look like, I barely care about the sound quality, and I'm willing to put up with them being moderately overpriced; I'm shopping almost 100% based on comfort. My ears are extremely sensitive, and sound quality doesn't matter if I'm in pain.

The only thing that would cause me to hesitate to buy something in the form factor I described would be reports of low manufacturing quality/high failure rates (like these, which would be exactly what I want if it weren't for the build quality problems).

u/Zhant0m · 1 pointr/GlobalOffensive

i use koss clip ons and wear a fatality headset
for the mic.
got the koss for ~fifteen and the fatality when it was ~twenty.

i do agree with other posters to use a combo of headphones + a clip on mic because it is cheaper, but using a headset around your neck for a mic provides a closer proximity to your vocals.

i personally don't know how well mics perform when clipped onto your shirt collar (far proximity), but if you talk softly and compensate by boosting your mic volume (increase gain), your voice will become somewhat distorted.

super duper edit: since you already have at least one headset, you can use one of those for your mics if you find hanging them around your neck comfortable

Budget: Let's say ≤ $100

Source: My phone or laptop (Macbook Pro)

Requirements for Isolation: It would be a bonus, but yeah sn't that what headphones are for? To block out the noises and not disturb others.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public?: Maybe on the bus or airplane.

Preferred Type of Headphone: IEMs seem to never stick in my ear and I can't imagine they will be high quality. I would say IEM are very convenient and portable. Full-sized is probably the highest quality I assume, but they are too big for me. Ear-on is I think the middle ground. The clip-on ear https://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K like these are probably the best. They aren't too big and aren't susceptible to breaking the head part.

Preferred tonal balance: I have no idea what this part means lol. I don't listen to rock, punk, or anything too loud. I listen to J-pop, OSTs, Classical sometimes, and that's it. Nothing crazy or screams

Past headphones:

Used to own an open ear clip on headphones I got from the airplane. I liked them because they are easy to use, but didn't like the ear pad because on hot days it makes me sweat. I currently own a JVC headphone that I bought from London Drugs.

I don't hate them, but don't like them either. I didn't like them because when I plugged my headphones into my computer there seems to be a really quiet static noise and after putting my headphones on for a long time, they hurt my ears. Also the earpad isn't real leather so the sweating issue is a problem. I also found it recently that I just don't like how "importable" it is (inconvenient to carry) and I can't stuff it in my pockets

Preferred Music: Looks like I answered this part already! Mostly soft J-pop, OSTs from Anime, Classical Music (no orchestras). No scream loud music like Rock, Rap, etc.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up: Hm better sound quality, softer, cooler pads, and portability.

Location- I am in Canada, but I got a $100 Amazon.com Gift Card so I can shop there. But if there is somewhere else I can purchase, let me know.

I never blast music or block sound while running outdoors unless I'm on a long stretch of protected path (e.g. bike path with minimal traffic). I thus have one set of headphones for indoor running and one for outdoor running.

I use Shure IEMs for indoor and YurBuds outdoor, but there is a huge caveat...the YurBuds sound quality is awful. When I used to listen to music while running, I would never have worn any model of yurbuds. Completely unacceptable sound quality to me for music. Tinny and anemic. Now that I almost never listen to music while running, I love them since they are rainrpoof/sweatproof, have a mic, don't fall out, and let enough sound in.

When I used to listen to music, I used to wear Koss KSC-75 , which are secure, sound like they cost $50 more than they do, and don't die immediately from sweat. I'd never wear them in the rain or anything like I do regularly with YurBuds, but they lasted through 6 months of training. I didn't mind going through them once in a while since they are cheap and can often be had on sale for $10.

Thaccording to many people are a hidden gem, it rivals the soundstage and sound quality of many 150$ headsets, dont look at the bad reviews, because since they're so cheap the're being bought by people who don't have enough power to use them to full potential (low end motherboards have sh*t audio solutions built-in). They've been tested by experts with high end amps and they were surprised by its sound quality, try them, you can return them anytime you want since it's amazon

I've always hated the idea of using obnoxiously large headphones, and I can't seem to use ear buds for too long before they keep falling out.

I've used the ear bud variety of Motorheadphones and like how they sound...but I just can't continue to use them long term. I just ordered some new headphones and they surprisingly have better specs than the ear buds I got. I haven't actually heard them yet, though.

I cut off the stock Sena 20s speakers and soldered these on. They sound way louder and have a little bit more bass. Easy upgrade.

I'm looking for some solid cheap headphones to use with my phone(Galaxy S6) under $15 that will be at least a slight upgrade over my included IEM's, I will probably pick between the KSC75's or JVC HA-S160 FLATS , I like the headband of the JVC but the headphones and they aren't nearly as widely recommended as the ksc75 so i'm not sure what to think . If there are any other sub $15 solid headphones that I should consider notify me otherwise tell me which one I should get.

TLDR: Should I get the KSC75 or the JVC HA-S160 FLATS to use with my phone?

Hello, meet the KOS KSC75. :)

u/SmoothWD40 · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Extremely confortable, great for gaming and watching movies. For music it needs a bit of burn in but they sound really good for the price. JVC HA-RX700

Clip on headphones. They sound great. Might hurt ear after a while. Koss-KSC75

u/ilikepork · 1 pointr/audiophile

I would get a pair of koss ksc75, possibly the best value in portable audio. It meets your requirements with it being cheap, comfortable to wear in different positions, and comes with volume control. It even has a lifetime warranty if you ever do break it.

For the mic, just get a separate clip-on like this zalman.

u/psychoguitar531 · 1 pointr/snowboarding

I like these. They fit perfectly inside the ear flaps of my helmet and I can still hear things going on around me. They sound great and have a lifetime warranty. By far the best headphones I have owned for snowboarding.

u/warlock-punch · 1 pointr/Fitness

Koss KSC75 - I hate earbuds of any kind, they always hurt my ear after like 15 seconds. These stay on and sound excellent for the price. Not Bluetooth, but the cable is the perfect length for my height to go from my pocket to my head without any excess. I've bought at least 3 pairs, and not because they fell apart.

u/The-Real-Boris · 1 pointr/Vive

I use my Bose headset but just ordered these.

Because I want a lightweight, comfortable solution that won't sweat a lot and ones I could figure out a way to attach them to the Vive headset. These had great reviews for the low low price of 15 bucks!

u/Varantain · 1 pointr/singapore

I like the Koss KSC75 for ones that don't eat your hair.

u/matmann2001 · 1 pointr/headphones

If these are a possibility, I don't see how a slightly larger form factor, like this, is out of the question.

Those earbuds are Bluetooth, so at least one bud must have a BT receiver. Both buds probably have at least a receiver, DAC, and amp, plus a battery.

Sure, a clip-on style would use a larger driver, but the housing would be much larger, and could accommodate a larger battery.

As for the lack of seal, that's always been the case with clip-ons. It's just a tradeoff for that particular style.

I know this isn't a popular recommendation, but I have a pair of [Koss KSC-75] (http://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K) that I bought back in September to replace a pair I lost. I run with them 60-70 miles per week and they just don't fall off.

I know I probably look a little "special" wearing them, but they just stick to my ears and sound great. I am known to have very small ears, and they don't rattle, never fall off, and I never have to readjust. They do not block out ambient street noise, which is a big plus. Plus they are dirt cheap.

The only other headphones I have been over-the-moon for are the earbuds that they ship with new BlackBerry phones. They also work great for my small ears and don't fall off. And the cord is flat and won't tangle. These appear to be what I have.

Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone Headphones
Amazing quality. They should cost a lot more than they do. I've owned a pair since November of last year and I haven't had any problems, and as you can tell by the design (not noise-cancelling), I think it fits the bill.

u/nrj · 1 pointr/ReviewThis

Unless you're fond of being struck by traffic, I would strongly recommend against any pair that seals off your ear canal, is "sound isolating", etc. If you run on the road, they're pretty unsafe.

I have a pair of Koss KSC75, so I'll review those: The sound is decent, especially for the price, and they're quite loud. You said that clip-ons tend to chafe, but I've never had this problem. They're comfortable enough to wear on even my longest runs, but tend to become less so if you wear them for a very long period of time. The cord is 4' long, which I find to be perfect: long enough that you can hold your mp3 player or keep it in your pocket, but not so long as to be cumbersome. I've owned them for about 8 months and they've taken a surprising amount of abuse without suffering any damage. The jack looks a bit fragile, but I haven't had any problems (jack or otherwise) yet. Overall, the best headphones I've ever used for exercise, and a great price.

I also owned two pairs of these, but in both of them, one speaker gave out after a few months. I believe it was a problem with the connection at the jack. I would not recommend them.

Koss KSC75 clip headphones. Inexpensive, don't fall off, sound great. Done.

u/Linksysruler · 1 pointr/ProjectEnrichment

Here

They are $15 and are unanimously reported to have the best sound quality in the low-price range.

I own a pair and could never possibly go back to something like traditional iPod earbuds.

u/PopeJohnPaulII · 1 pointr/gadgets

It doesn't really matter what you pick. You are looking for comfort, ignore any other specs.

If you are OK with over the ear I recommend http://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K .

u/hhkk47 · 1 pointr/3DS

I use the cheaper, but somewhat similar (and arguably better-sounding) Koss KSC75. Some people find the earclips uncomfortable, but if it works for you, it's a ridiculous bargain.

u/peanhut · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I also have the triple drivers, I definitely recommend them and they have a solid case to protect them as well. They're sturdy, the part that goes into your ear is a little thicker than other earbuds so fit for me is just okay compared to other earbuds. It comes with a variety of tips. They go on sale at Costco for $60 once or twice a year, it might be worth looking into around Black Friday. I got mine right before Christmas last year for that price.

https://m.costco.com/1More-Triple-Driver-In-Ear-Headphones.product.100296621.html?catalogId=10701&langId=-1&storeId=10301&krypto=RlhXLpVDD2EcktusBzYZEuTEELD0IqFDhdfMd%2BHcl8QDib0gU01BLe3lnw6mc7zpQqbkbh%2FojTSAYucad4nAxbpOQdsoag72oQ0gryaZqLLcpxGEPcfJXuSxCQnnZIhu

One of the best affordable options would be KSC 75's. They sound great, don't have to go over your head, and are less than $13. They may leak a little sound due to how you wear them, but I don't think you can do better for the price. Really good bass on these if that's your thing, they're basically PortaPros. Foam on them falls apart over time, easy to replace though.

If you like the earbud type then I recommend the Monoprice 8320.

I switched from my heavy expensive audiophile studio headphones to these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006B486K/ (Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone Headphones)

They are almost as comfortable as the Rift's integrated headphones, they don't interfere or overlap with the HMD straps at all, and the sound quality is good enough. And you can't beat the price!

edit: they also don't block outside sound much, which I consider a benefit, but YMMV.

u/CruftForce7 · 1 pointr/PSVR

I've tried a bunch of different headphones, but the ones I end up using the most often are Koss KSC75's. They only cost about $15 on Amazon, and the sound quality is amazing for the price--seriously, these things are a huge step up from the stock earbuds, and sound better than any headphones I've heard that cost less than $80. They are open air, though, which isn't great for immersion if you're playing in a room where there's a lot of background noise.

When I want to shut out external noise, I use Etymotic hf3's (about $120), which are in-ear monitors. Over-the-ear headphones feel weird to me when using the PSVR, mainly because of the additional bulk.

u/MindForsaken · 1 pointr/PS4

Really cheap yet great: koss ksc75. I used these since the ps3 days and they are some of the most comfortable headphones I've used (they rest on your ear basically). Oh, and for the price, they sound amazing.

Or you can go with the creative aurvana live headphones, those were my daily cans until recently, and as a big headed individual who also wears glasses, they are great. But as for any headphones, it's subjective.

u/mavericksnowflake · 1 pointr/headphones

Buy a pair of Koss KSC-75 and use the frame of the PortaPro's. I'm not joking.

Exact same portaility, same durability, and will sound a bit better (titanium coated drivers).

All for less than a tenth of your budget. If you do this, please post impressions.

(I'm not aware of any other on-ear portables that clearly trump the portaPros. Sennheiser has the PX-100i, but it's a sidegrade instead of an upgrade. It might suit your taste better, or not. Not as durable as the portaPro in my experience.)

u/elgatomojado · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you're looking for a cheaper option with fantastic sound, I would recommend looking into Koss KSC75s. Probably the best price:sound ratio I've encountered.

u/Hamster_P_Huey · 0 pointsr/bicycling

i recommend these. they're cheap, sound great, are secure and comfortable, and allow you to hear road noise better than buds.

u/nistco92 · 0 pointsr/buildapc

Those speakers are next to worthless. If you want audio on the cheap, pick up some Koss KSC-75's.

u/madangrysloth · 0 pointsr/Vive

800$ for vive and you would like this integrated? : http://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K

Those are integrated in oculus probably.

I assume people who spend that much on vr also have good pc and good headset.

u/mmosarecool · 0 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

In general. M40X's being called shit is pretty common, but calling SHP9500 bad is more of a hot take. As someone who spent a good minute exploring the budget range (like <200), I think they're pretty mediocre.

Creative Aurvana Live! (CAL!) is more like a semi-close/semi-open than anything actually labeled as a semi-open/semi-closed. They have no isolation whatsoever. Their bass can seem kind of bloated to more refined and way more expensive bass head options like TR-X00's, but they're criminally overpriced for how much you pay.

Another option I'm seriously shocked this subplebbit doesn't circle jerk are the Koss KSC75/Porta Pro's. They sound absolutely insane for how much they cost. I even preferred the KSC75's to the HD650's. The KSC75's are pretty neutral but still have a tight bass and decent mid/upper ranges. Porta Pro's are bassier and looser, and sound a lot more laid back, but still have insane resolution. They both do. They both also have a significantly wider sound stage than any of the HD6x0 options.

My daily driver is a KSC75 on a Porta Pro headband withthis as a cushion.

It's super comfortable.

Panasonic RP-HJE120 No. 1 seller on Amazon for the last 4 years! There is some low midrange boost. I would cut 200-500Hz by 6dB

Also KOSS KSC75. It is a legend for the last 25 years I think. It continues to impress everytime I listen to them.
